Cure Hiv Already In Play

Featured Replies

It is a taboo subject in most counties of the world. But in Thailand they have actually made some serious inroads.

I was talking to a charity in Northen Thailand this morning and they have told me, that by the year 2045 they expect the amount of the children born with HIV to eradicated. In addition the adults infected with HIV to enjoy free treatment as they do know. They expect that that HIV infections will decrease to zero by 2045 if current trends continue.

Is this the real cure for HIV, education and safe sex, rather than relying on some wonder drug.

Thailand is leading the world in educating its young about safesex.

I think you might be over-reacting here.

My understanding is that by taking a cocktail of rather expensive drugs, its possible to remove all traces of the virus from a patients body i.e. the virus is no longer detectable in a patients bloodstream. However, this is not the same as being cured since the virus, or its genome, are still lurking in the hosts cell's and will begin replication once the drug therapy ceases.

My impression is that Thailand isn't one of the world leaders in educating their youngsters on safe sex.

A few years ago, the ex brother in law was the Kamnan. He dragged me to a meeting, where this girl was doing the talking. There were 3 Americans there, who came over and started talking. asking what I was doing there etc.. I explained that the BIL was one of the local leaders, and I asked them what they were doing. American Peace corp, doing volunteer work with AIDS victims. The girl talking was HIV positive, the audience all old grandmothers.. I said to them in my opinion this meeting was a waste of time. As, if teenagers listened to their elders, they wouldn't be engaging in sex. That young girl should have been addressing her pier group.

I would expect to see a cure by 2045, but the science won't be coming out of Thailand.

Thailand should start a just say no abstinence program, it worked for nancy Reagan.

Thailand has done well with this in the past, but there has been ... slippage:

It is thought that around 85% of Thai youth do not see HIV as something that they should be concerned about, even though 70% of all STI cases in Thailand occur among this group.41 Premarital sex has become more common among young Thais, but only 20-30% of sexually active young people are using condoms consistently.

Well this maybe possible! Might I suggest Chalerm is put in charge of this. I am sure he will solve the problem in 3 months, as he has done with all the other problems he has/will solve?

A forecast till 2045 is nonsense....many things can change till then.

Bit off on that one.

Certainly a US led thing, but my understanding has always been that there has been a fair bit of support from the RTG on this particular issue.

Add to that, Mr Condom himself, laying the ground work for AIDS awareness campaigns which have been replicated across the globe.

Just saying...

"It is a taboo subject in most counties of the world. But in Thailand they have actually made some serious inroads"

You mean like getting the police to harass women who carry condoms in their handbags by accusing them of being prostitutes?

Dream on, gullible traveller.

That is precisely correct. Having a CD4 count that is very high (same level as someone who is HIV-) and having an undetectable viral load in no way means one is cured. It means one is in control of their disease.

HIV is no longer a death sentence. People who have been diagnosed before their immune system was badly damaged can live a full life and die of old age.

It does however, require a fairly radical lifestyle change that is more than simply taking a handful of pills. A lot of new research also points at cold pressed coconut oil as being a very valuable tool in fighting infections related to HIV+ immune deficiency issues. Bananas are in the news a lot too. Proper nutrition and vitamin supplements (such as the most common immune system boosters as well as specifics like Alpha Lipoic Acid and N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine), exercise and all of the things that 'health nuts' have been preaching forever seem to be the keys to winning the battle.

I'm sure you're right and people that are HIV+ can boost their immune systems in a number of different ways, however, at the present moment in time its not possible to ever stop taking these drugs, and their prescribed regimes need to be strictly adhered to.

On a separate note, given the money that has been spent on HIV / AIDS research, I'm rather surprised that there is no vaccine available yet against this infection and no known cure. Rather startling how incredibly effective these class of viruses are at perpetuating themselves.

I wasn't suggesting that anyone who is HIV+ can get off of their meds. I was merely saying that they can stay healthy and live a normal life if they take care of themselves by being wise with their immune system.

I do know that they can get put on lower dosages once their blood counts have been good for a while. I've read that some folks have been able to take a short break from all meds, but they would get back on them thereafter.

Why create a cure when the treatment is so profitable? That aside Big Pharma have not had a good track record with viruses, there is a potent natural anti-viral out there that is very effective against HIV and others, cheaper and no side effects. I've posted it before so won't babble on again.

Mind while I'm yakking about natural cures, what about lemon/lime juice and cancer?

"It is considered also as an anti microbial spectrum against bacterial infections and fungi, effective against internal parasites and worms, it regulates blood pressure which is too high and an antidepressant, combats stress and nervous disorders.

The source of this information is fascinating: it comes from one of the largest drug manufacturers in the world, says that after more than 20 laboratory tests since 1970, the extracts revealed that: It destroys the malignant cells in 12 cancers, including colon, breast, prostate, lung and pancreas ...

The compounds of this tree showed 10,000 times better than the product Adriamycin, a drug normally used chemotherapeutic in the world, slowing the growth of cancer cells.

And what is even more astonishing: this type of therapy with lemon extract only destroys malignant cancer cells and it does not affect healthy cells."

Rather ominous - So what will they do with all the unborn babies of HIV infected women then? Make sure they will not be born?

I think what they mean is that by that time 100% of all pregnant women who are HIv positive will receive the already available prophy;actic treatment which averts passing the infection to the newborn. That should in fact be achieveable a lot sooner than 2045.

I agree that after an initially could start, Thailand has slipped in its HIV prevention efforts, it also has not done well at all in eliminating stigma.

Where there is a fantastic success story is right across the border, in Cambodia. From "the world's fastest growing HIV epidemic" 10-12 years ago, they have brought the prevalance down so low (about half of that in Thailand) that it no longer classifies as an epidemic. And they have largely eliminated the stigma associated with the disease, at all levels of society there is good factual understanding of it.

My GP here commented that 'after the UN money dried up, the government lost interest' in the PSA programs and other awareness raising & educational approaches.
