hellodolly Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 The whole of the Chiang Mai nightly entertainments sector is being shut down, piece at a time and what`s left is on borrowed time. These days I am hard pushed to find anywhere decent to go and hardly ever venture out into the town these days. Did check out the Mandalay sometime ago, a total waste of time and money, so if it`s gone, no great loss. Well judging by the time of your post I would venture a guess you found some where. How long before the Farongs start going home because the bars close here ad 11:00 or midnight and theyare open until 2:00 A M back home?
uptheos Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 How long before the Farongs start going home because the bars close here ad 11:00 or midnight and theyare open until 2:00 A M back home? You mean that certain farang's are only here because they like to booze a lot and until late?

Not quite sure which country you are from that closes bars at 2am. Where I originally came from it's 24 hr licencing OK how long before they start going back to where you came from. Maybe some of the complainers here about the early closing hours would like to know what country it is. You will probably be getting a lot of PMs if you don't post the country.

I very much doubt if I will receive any PM's as most people know already. A quick search of the net will tell you where the liberal countries are. If one really had the urge to drink in Chiangmai, there are many places that you can buy a drink at any hour of the day or night. 1

What point are you trying to make? This is not only about early closing, but also about establishments being closed down completely. I`m not so sure if farangs will return to their homelands due to becoming bored in Chiang Mai, but some may consider not retiring here. There are still some of us who enjoy a bit of social and not ready to hang up our guns, the highlight of they`re lives being feeding the ducks in the park, trying to win contests by growing prize tomato plants in the garden or telling fairy stories to the local kids. And sorry, no, I still won`t F/off to where I came from.
ForumUsername Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I knew this thread would take off. Always seems to be popular talking about CM Nightlife. I'm a big fan of WarmUp & Monkey, but you really have to get to Monkey early if you want a table for the night. Also those two clubs are much better to go with friends. Have collected a few phone numbers but it's not always easy. I have to admit I'm getting a little bored of the nightlife here too. Spent a lot of time in Karaokes lately but that's starting to wear on me as well. Took a break from Spicy / Zoe etc for two months; returned to see the exact same girls I always see. Infinity is cool, but again, that's a place you really take friends as well I think. Approached a lot of girls in there and sometimes get them super excited to talk to you, other times I get the 'fug off' look. There's only one good club I've found for picking up girls consistently (non-paid) but no farangs go there so I don't want to ruin it I love Chiang Mai, but going out and having a lot of options is still pretty important to me I guess, so I think I'll head back to BKK in Jan.

jacktrip Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 But if you are not afraid to be in a minority, and want to pick up some class "no strings attached" then ditch the plebby tourist traps and go to the Monkey club or Warm up. I gurantee you will not be disappointed......................(but if you are then T.S. Walked through Monkey once ...... dumped the four girls with me and kept walking out the other side. My idea of hell. the crew tried monkey club, it was like watching a comedy, nobody could pull. one guy bailed stag after about an hour, the others left for another venue (stag) after about three hours. they do allow you to take bottles out. as for spicy, i stopped going there because the waiters liked causing problems with foreigners and would mob and hit people out on the street, and they wore little bow ties and were smart as*ses. could this have been an indication that you really aren't...'hansum man" someones been lying to you. yes, its called reality. if i want to be young and hansum again i just go back to loh kroh.
Mapguy Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 No bothersome narrow door frames to squeeze through, either!
KRS1 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 yes, its called reality. if i want to be young and hansum again i just go back to loh kroh. no worries im starting to get to the point loy kroh is becoming a necessity myself.
theblether Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I was driving past Fabrique the other day with my lady, I've never been, I asked her if she had been, she said years ago. To paraphrase, She said it was full of posers, it was expensive and over rated.......that would gel with what BlackArtemis said above about the place being unfriendly / bitchy. I asked about Mandalay, to paraphrase again, she said it had been closed for under age drinking, she said it was a major shock to the owners. Apparently the license has been suspended, not revoked.
ForumUsername Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Just noticed my post on here from almost two months ago. Funny to reflect on previous feelings. I've actually been to Fabrique quite a lot in this time. Honestly, I don't see where people get all these gel and 'flash' comments from. Maybe Thai's notice it more than Farang. Then again, someone would maybe put me in that category with them I really like the music, very similar to Infinity. Each to their own I guess. If you don't wanna pay, go before 10pm when nobody is on the door. You'll have to wait until 11 for it to start getting busy though.
wellred Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Is Mandalay for gays only or is it an even mix? I'm keen to check it out.
theblether Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Is Mandalay for gays only or is it an even mix? I'm keen to check it out. I think it's still shut?.........the first few times I was in I didn't notice it was a gay club, I was with a lady. The last time I was in the penny dropped, there was a live band playing and the dance floor was full of guys giving it their best moves to each other. That same night I was in with a pals girlfriend and she set me up with this extraordinary friend of hers, ( female I hasten to add ), this woman was like a voluptuous vogue model, stunning, just stunning. Unfortunately theblether was nigh on comatose drunk that night and I lost her phone number, dammit, the one that got away version 500 odd. I wouldn't say it's much of a club inside, you may be nosey to see it but it's no great shakes. However gay night clubs do have a more exuberant atmosphere than straight places. So it may be worth seeing just so you can say you've been in but I don't think you'll rate it in the best 50 night clubs you've been to.
Paagai Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Mandalay is recruiting new staff and apparently set to re-open in the next few weeks, after a bit of a re-model. Interesting to see the speculation on here as to why it closed, I thought the real reason was well known? Anyway, I guess the protagonists stopped playing hardball and agreed a new deal Is Mandalay for gays only or is it an even mix? I'm keen to check it out. Don't think the owners ever planned it to be gay, but on a good night maybe half the clientele were; very popular with CM's camp young things. But, whilst Mandagay has been closed, seems like "See Man Pub" (Canal Road) stole their lunch. "See Man" is specifically gay (though you could never have guessed by the name ), a much nicer atmosphere then Mandagay, much easier to get to for the student crowd, has a fun show, cheaper drinks, easy parking and is packing them in. Also, it's close to Infinity, Tawan Deang, Warm Up, Monkey and there are plenty of other Thai style bars nearby to eat/drink earlier in the evening. Mandagay may find it very hard to get the old clientele back.
alexpoker Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Scratching always sucked as in that you have to pay 300b to get in and you only get a beer for your voucher. Whereas Fabrique the 300b can go towards a bottle, which is perfectly fine. Still never understood why they charge farang. Its not like farangs dont spend money when they go to a club. Its just kinda stupid and puts a bad taste in peoples mouth. Maybe they just wanna keep it for thai people only? No idea why that is so important to them either.
WinnieTheKhwai Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 There is still fun to be had in Chiang Mai, if you know a friend of a friend who has friends in the know. Or just know yourself.

The reason I heard is because "they don't want foreigners to go there". When i enquired further was that they specifically meant foreigners travelling through that were more likely to cause them problems and less likely to spend money than the average foreigner working/living here. Just what I was told, of course might be wrong but from what I have seen there it does make sense, only ever see foreigners that live here there. YoungBrit
alexpoker Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Thats such a load of BS. Tourists are much more likely to spend a lot of money than people who live here. How would tourist cause problems exactly?
daoyai Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Though I don't respect fabrique, I do respect their business decision, the advance payment plan is a screening process, it eliminates those types that take a table, and spend as little as possible. As to what kind of problems tourist create? visit Sapicy in high season.
true blue Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Thats such a load of BS. Tourists are much more likely to spend a lot of money than people who live here. How would tourist cause problems exactly? bit naive there mate,go to zoe yellow, and see how they behave, mainly like young tourist anywere else in the world, having a fuelled alcholic ball, plus i dont think they like them approaching there women, its the same as infinty, warm up, monkey club, they dont like farrangs in there thai venues.

Exactly. As the guys said above where do you think there will be more problems from foreigners.....zoe area and spicy or fabrique?
StevieH Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Thats such a load of BS.Tourists are much more likely to spend a lot of money than people who live here. How would tourist cause problems exactly? not knowing what sangsom does to one, not knowing how strong thai red bull is, thinking that they're in a country where there are no laws or rules etc. seen infinitely more trouble in tourist areas of chiang mai by young knobheads who don't know what they're doing than in those frequented by farang residents here. 2
skills32 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Used to go to Tawang dairng. Great for music and fairly priced for food and drinks. But the ice and mixers charge killed you. Anyone been there lately?
daoyai Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Tawan Daeng is fun, much more lowbrow relaxed and friendly than some of the other Thai oriented places, haven't been in a long time, too lazy to go across town...... gettin' old!

Been there twice in the last month. Actually had some luck with one of the girls dancing on stage. Everyone was very friendly. Kinda hesitant to post because I like the places with no Farangs
Mapguy Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Nothing wrong with going clubbing (although some clubs mentioned above are more than a tad seedy. One poster mentioned that some bouncers (when the topic focused on being denied admission or being charged an excessive admission fee into a club) told him that farang are more trouble than they are worth. Given the nasty reputation one reads often about farang (particularly young ones) out to get in on and off, it is difficult to blame locals for being more than a little annoyed. Isn't it the same anywhere? Oh --- almost forgot --- the next really serious "Full Moon Party" is in French Guiana !! Shouldn't miss it, boys! PARTY of the CENTURY !! One of the highlights will be the "Mr Universe Wet Jockstrap Contest!! Pack your Viagra!
