After a few beers and thinking about cycling, I remember reading about carbon footprints. Now for a cyclist to ride a mile in 30 degree heat he will burn 2000 calories. That would mean eating a Australian grain fed steak to make up those lost calories. To produce a fully viable Abredeen Angus cow to produce a steak needs two acres of grass and a silo of grain. The cow produces 15 kilos of methane gas every few hours. Methane gas is one of the main contributors of global warming. Now say there were 50 guys in this event cycling the two or three miles for the environment, they would be personally responsible for the production of a few tonnes of methane. More than Big C's and the rest of the contributors 3 lite diesel trucks damage to the Ozone in a week.

So in my very humble opinion this Cycling event should be banned as a hazard to the polar ice cap.
