Hello. I have just been to Chaeng Wattana today. I wanted to apply for a one-year multi-entry extension (based on marriage) and pay 3,800 baht.

But I was told that I must apply for a one-year single-entry (and pay 1,900 baht) and then come back once the single-entry is approved and obtain the multi-entry (and then pay another 3,800 baht).

This, actually, constrasts with what I have been told previously by immigration officials, who have told me that I could obtain a multi-entry (and pay 3,800) straight off the bat.

Does anyone know; has there been a rule change? Is what I was told today the correct procedure?

Any info much appreciated.

Regards

Immigration doesn't issue multiple non-O visas. What immigration tried to tell you is that the extension of stay costs 1,900 baht. Since it is based on marriage, you only get a 30 day extension of stay. During this period your application is under consideration, is it must be approved by a commitee.

Any re-entry permit you would by would only be valid during this 30 days, as your permission to stay is only for 30 days. It depends if you need to travel abroad during the first 30 days if you need to get one.

Once the application is approved you get the other 11 months to stay, and for that you can get a new re-entry permit.

A re-entry permit is 1,000 single and 3,800 multiple.
