Just popped into the Kia garage today to have a look at the Picanto.. I have to say its a good looking car inside and out. the interior especially looks more expensive than some other eco cars.

Top of the range one has leather biggrin.png

But it seems from the sales guys ltd English NO airbags or ABS.. Bit strange that one..

So any one got one? DO they in fact have Airbags and ABS?

Thanks.

I thought everything had to have ABS now, ooooop's perhaps not in LOS. sad.png

In this day and age, safety wise, one should never consider a ride without it. thumbsup.gif

I would say the Kia Picanto is a very solid car..however..Airbags/ ABS or not...I'm not sure...but these 2 features are important active safety features!

Put your same amount of $$$ for more active safety features rather than interior looks as they might save yr life...

I search the info. from Thai website. OP is correct no abs/airbag but no surprise because KIA Thailand are distributed by Yontrakit. I think the cheapest car with abs/airbag is Proton Savvy at 469K.

Yes correct, the picanto has no abs or airbags! I ordered a suzuki swift, due next year, but there is a mid model manual version available (467K), and I believe delivery time is about two months. The mid and low model have abs and driver's airbag. The low model is 429K for the manual. I didn't drive the manual version, but the cvt is a good ride and will cruise easily at 120 km/h. I found it more quiet than the brio I tested.

i saw that but also looked at the Kia South African website which said the higher spec had.. but i understand it maybe different spec in different countries... Still looks nice though and similar price to a Nissan March..but much nicer interior.

My March has a wonderful Factory leather interior, black with red stitching. More room than the Kia too

What about the Mitsubishi Mirage, looks a nice car for the price. What puts me off the Kia is that they do not have a dealer network, or even proper showrooms. If you had a problem i imagine it would be a nightmare to sort out.

What is a + the Kia UK very model has a 7 year warentee, no idea how long it is in Thailand.

Kia do have proper showrooms by Yontrakit located in BKK but as for dealer networks..it's not as strong as other established jap brands.

If dealer network problem is sorted out-the picanto would put up a very good fight...

7 year warranty in South East Asia is almost unheard of.5 years warranty is provided by Kia in Thai..which is better than most Jap makes which provide 3 years only...

yontrakit is grey market if i am not mistaken, i wouldn't touch them

Well there you go. You are mistaken. They are official Kia distributers. Also Peugeot. Audi and Volkswagen.

I think that would have been ordered at the showroom and fitted by another company....not a factory fit.

Jeeze mate I have friends with every make of car that at sometime are unhappy with the service. Any car that rely on a smaller distributer will on occasion have problems with parts availability. Goes with the territory. At least the Kia is Thai priced rather than import prices.

you are correct, i am wrong. I defer my opinion to you and will not offer up an opinion again.

you have shattered my confidence most masterfully.

Tinfoil :

Lol. Not saying your wrong. And its good your giving info. It would be better if it was 1st hand info.

I would be pissed if I had paid over the top and then got bad service.

I rented a KIA Optima before (not Picanto sorry) imo, they are good cars if they are not abused and pushed to there limits, the first rental was fast, smooth and great on fuel and had a good mulitmedia system, the speakers were the best i have ever heard in a stock automobile...very impressed with the sound systema nd USB connection.

The second rental i had was the exact same model, but the transmission was knocking, had stutter upon take off and the speakers were crackling like they were blown.

I considered buying one until i got into the second rental.
