Criminal law to be used against improper websites

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Ministry plans to use criminal law as a tool to fight against improper websites--particularly pornographic webpages, ICT Minister Sora-at Klinpratoom said on Monday.

Mr. Sora-at said that his Ministry would cooperate with Minister Attached to the Prime Minister's Office Newin Chidchob to crack down on electronic media containing pornography and other unlawful activities.

Mr. Newin was assigned by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinwatra to oversee the vice websites particularly indecent webpages.

The ministry earlier asked internet service providers (ISPs) to cooperate with the campaign and help block unsuitable websites, Mr. Sora-at said, but the problem continues.

Without voluntary cooperation, the minister said, the authorities will resort to applying criminal law to contain 'anti-social' activities on the internet, he said. At the same time he appeared to offer ways for ISPs to adjust their practices, as he said that the law would be gently implemented.

Mr. Sora-at said he would ask for more cooperation from the involved agencies, and that there would be no seizure of equipment for fear it might interrrupt service to the public, he said.

The state-run telecommunications firm, CAT Telecom Plc, and Kasetsart University have jointly installed software capable of screening 80-90 per cent of improper websites, he said.

But it is an uphill battle, he suggested, saying that many internet users wanted to visit sex-oriented sites and other sites that offer activities not considered to be in the public interest.

The Ministry will soon distribute screening software to schools and households in order to block improper websites in such places, he said.

That's the first s(a)mart (just thought I'd throw that one in :o ) thing that Mr. Sorealot has concieved. Impound the the equipment of the likes of CS Loxinfo, and you have NO internet in Thailand. A real bright boy for thinking that one up.

" (ICT) Ministry plans to use criminal law as a tool to fight against....." Really difficult to know who to charge, and who decides what is "improper" enough to charge? :D

Domain changes, new sites every day, and proxy servers will maintain a healthy flow of "raunch' continually :D

It "used" to be Thai Immigration Department Nong Khai's website... now it's in the hands of the "Red Devils"

THAIIMIGRATION.COM

Thai Immigration information direct from Thai officials so you can get it right

about Visa Rules in Thailand

http://th.thaiimmigration.com/phpBB2/

a portion of the thai language section remains un-hacked

however, if you go directly to

http://th.thaiimmigration.com .... it's hacked

:o

In case anyone is wondering what the "Red Devils Crew" is complaining about:

I suspect there are more sites hacked other then the forged thaiimigration.com site. Try googling "Red Devils Crew" and you'll see what I mean.

Ahh... wonderous Google does indeed reveal the truth...

Who The Red Devils Are

Where They Do Their Drinking At

just as I suspected... American Air Force personnel from Arkansas hatched their nefarious plot from a bar in San Francisco.

Looks like you left the " " quote marks off. :o Some years ago our website was hacked by this same group but their agenda has changed. RDC

oops.... you're right. I did forget the quotation marks...

Darn, just when it was all becoming so clear who was responsible... :D

As for your website getting hacked, are you sure it wasn't an inside job? I hear those Chiang Mai University β€œfreshies” in the Computer Science program can be quite mischievous at times trying to show off.

:D:D

I don't believe that the thai immigration server is located in Denmark :o

Seems like the Red Devils has succeded a DNS redirect hack..

dunno about their server being in Denmark, but few things about the government surprise me anymore... as splintered and fractured as their IT system is, it's certainly plausible. The website has been around for quite awhile and is referenced as a governmental source on many searches.

However, who knows what it's current status is. Whoever it belongs to, it hasn't changed.... no idea how long it's already been like that.

btw, what is a DNS redirect hack? Are they difficult to do? Difficult to fix?

errrr. :D .. wait a sec, in keeping with TV's policy, maybe an encrypted reply is best. :D
