Maternity Care In Bangkok

Featured Replies

Mrs Eye of Sauron wants to have some mini-Sauronnettes.

I have been looking into hospitals in Bangkok and health insurance.

Does anyone have any thoughts - experiences....anecdotes about your own Bangkok-birthing experience.

Would love to hear them.

To the prospective Eye of Sauron family,

My Kitty was born in a Phyathai hospital outside Bangkok in the south east where the whole experience went off quite well.

Kitty's gorgeous mother spent 4 days in the hospital after having a c-section. She had her own room with an extra bed for either me or her mother to occupy, (unfortunately I didn't quite make it back in time so her Mum stayed). She took care of Kitty twice a day, 9-10am and 5-6pm for those 4 days.

She says the nurses were great, after the delivery one of them popped her head into the room and asked my wife why Kitty was so white, she hadn't mentioned that i was farang, this caused a great stir (there was movement at the hospital, for the word had passed around...) everyone wanted to see the luk kreung baby. My wife was a celebrity.

She spent the last day learning how to take care of Kitty before they called her a tuk-tuk and sent her off (she hates it when she is called a tuk-tuk, she says she is worth more than 20 baht :o )

Her final bill was around 30k baht give or take.

All in all I would say giving birth in Thailand was a most enjoyable experience and I am sure we will do it all again, I certainly had no problems :D

Bumrungrad Hospital, Bangkok - exellent but expensive (partly covered by health insurance).
