LAEMCHABANG:--A tanker full of petrol was ambushed by armed assailants in Laem Chabang on Sunday morning.

The tanker has now been found but up-to 26,000 Litres of fuel is thought to have been stolen from the vehicle. The incident began when the truck was picked up from a terminal in Laem Chabang on Sunday Morning by Khun Anan aged 41 and Khun Sagon aged 45 who are sub-contracted as drivers for a well known oil company based in the area by the Good Team Company.

As they left the port, they were flagged down by three men who were all wearing Good Team Company shirts. The men assumed they were work colleagues and stopped. All three produced guns and immediately disconnected the Tankers GPS system and a small camera installed inside the cab before ordering the tanker to be driven towards Highway 7. The truck was taken to a road near the Khao Kheo Zoo where the driver and co-driver were ordered out of the cab. They were bound and gagged and left at the location.

The three assailants then left the area with one of them driving off on their motorbike and the other two drove-off in the tanker. The tanker was later found abandoned at a reservoir in Bang Phra. The seals on each compartment of the tanker had been broken and the fuel had been removed.

Surprised it doesn't happen more often.

I sold some software to the company that had the delivery contract before Good Team. What they were more worried about was the driver skipping off with the load, never to be seen again. If the GPS system had been disconnected, alarms would have gone off in a control room and they would have contacted the police fairly quickly.

With petrol at £1.40 [70B] and £1.46 [73B] for diesel per liter I am surprised it is not being delivered by G4S with an armed escort here in the UK.sick.gif

I have an ex Navy mate who says that he was once employed as the rear gunner on a Guiness delivery tanker in Liverpool.

UPDATE

Four men arrested following recent Petrol Tanker Ambush in Laem Chabang

Laem Chabang:Four men have now been arrested following the hijack of a petrol tanker in Laem Chabang last Sunday Morning.

Police Colonel Sakrapee, the Chief of Laem Chabang Police held a reconstruction of the incident on Thursday and confirmed that each of the four men were former employees of the Good Team Company, who are sub-contracted to drive the petrol tankers for a well known oil company at the Laem Chabang Port. The men were angry at the way their employment was terminated and decided to conduct the hijacking in revenge for their job losses.

Initial reports suggested the men were armed with guns, but Police have now confirmed that pieces of wood which were placed under their jackets to appear as if they were carrying a gun were used. During the reconstruction of the event leading-up-to and following the theft of the tanker it was revealed that the stolen petrol had been sold to a local dealer for 75,000 Baht.
