Pollution gives you respiratory health problems, but the damage goes much further. Long-term exposure to PM2.5 is linked to heart disease, stroke, chronic lung disease, lung cancer, and premature death. In 2016, more than 33,000 deaths in Thailand were estimated to be attributable to outdoor air pollution. It is the miserable slow death it provides you, not the instant death.
