At this stage we only have Thai language news coming out. From said sources : The deceased was found around 11 am today. Police believe he was shot elsewhere and then moved to and dumped next to a pre-dug shallow grave by 2 or 3 assailants [ maybe they were disturbed as they didn't use said grave]. They [police ] determined this because the body was man carried a distance of 80 metres from where vehicle tracks of a suspect vehicle were found. They also found 1 shoe/ sandle near the body and have taken it as evidence. Other sources are reporting that a police officer stated that he is of the belief that the killer/s led the victim to the area in an attempt to clear a personal matter. When this failed he was shot, killed and then stripped of his belongings to slow down identification and hinder the police investigation.

Let's hope the BIB get to the bottom of this ASAP. I guess English media will be picking up the story when the BIB estabilsh the victims identity. wai.gif

Uhh , Where does it say the Guy is / was English speaking or from an English speaking country??? There are plenty of white farang doing dodgy deals here as well, just look towards Pattaya for one such place.

Well yes, but as a rule there aren't that many around and about in saraburi. if you are going to bother transporting someone along way, you get organized.

odds are he was living locally, and whilst there are some around, i can't remember setting many in saraburi and the locality.

Where does Coma say that he suspect the guy being English? He says the English media picking picking up the story, as there is not much of German or French or whatever other language media in Thailand.

My regrets to those who knew him and were related to him

I mean no disrespect but I honestly feel the following.

Great just what we need in Chiang Mai. We already have a thread going for getting and carrying a concealed gun for Farongs.

Saraburi is actually quite away's south of Chiangmai????

Farang means someone of European ancestry to Thais. Farang dam is an African or dark foreigner and everyone else in between is maybe Chinese who knows?

Saraburi is on my list of towns not to visit, full of Nak Laeng, one visit to tthe towns biggest club AJAX was enought to turn me around.

At the risk of sounding nieve. If he was indeed dragged/carried 80m to a shallow grave there would be forensic evidence everywhere.

There was most likely important information everywhere, but it has most likely been rendered useless and contaminated.

Have a look at the Thairath photo. There are at least 12 people standing in the immediate vicinity of the deceased, with probably another dozen or so out of the closeup photo. The crime scene was not secured to prevent contamination.

Thais accept so many things in their society now, two faced attitudes, corruption rampant with some reports of 60% of government funded schemes going into the pockets of the politicians and government officials, lousy education and a million other things. Murder should not be added to the list of things a blind eye is turned to. I hope this case is investigated with vigour and vigilance and not just left in a file to gather dust because it earns the police no money.

You forgot about all the women with fathers, brothers and husbands who see the women in their lives engaging in the sex trade ?

How much can one man take before he decides to do something about it ?

Is it me or are stories of this nature getting more frequent.

Thai Society seems to be descending onto a slippery slope with the Rule of Law openly ignored by the rich and influential with them not even bothering any more to try to conceal it. It is almost reverse anarchy where those in power run amok. With role models such as those running the country, the military, the police and just about every other service or agency run by the local or national government, what hope is there that the general low level population will give a dam_n about the law either.

I hope the family of this man finds closure and him peace. There but for the grace of God go I - I wonder how long His grace will last sometimes.

Are you suggesting a Thai did it? There seems to be plenty of farang on farang violence these days as well if you read the local papers.

Good point

Would be nice to see the acceleration of the slippery slope on a chart compared with the growth of expats.

People get so use to Thai bashing it just becomes automatic to think it even if you are not a Thai basher.

When it comes to the government I am a basher but not because they are Thai but because of what they do to the Thai's and indirectly to us expats.

Thanks ' Jbrain '. thumbsup.gif

I guess I could have been a little more clear by typing " English language media " as opposed to just " English media ".

Sorry to anybody who was confused.wai.gif

If anyone knows this guy, than it is your duty to report to the police, even anonymously.

A truly terrible state of affairs.

And become a suspect so can shift blame from Thai to farang.

Go into an Internet cafe.

Sign up with a new Hotmail address.

Send the message to the police or to the newspaper that has published the story.

Sign out of Hotmail, walk out of Internet cafe and never use that Hotmail address again.

OR

Print out a letter, post from a post box to the police or to the newspaper that has published the story.

Only need to give the man`s name, nationality and address if known.

There are ways and means.

This guy probably has family somewhere, perhaps children, and if anyone knows this man please don`t make the family suffer, plus the police have limited resources, help them, please and bring the murderers to book.

Murder should not be added to the list of things a blind eye is turned to.

The murder rate is actually very high in Thailand but it doesn't often involve foreigners.

unlike other countries i.e. Philippines for example the Police will get involved and will likely catch the people that did this.

I've been here 10 years and on the whole feel pretty safe.

Forensic in Thailand, I doubt very much they will be bothered..

That was my understanding.

Makes no difference to some people to them it is Thailand. A place where they do not feel safe yet choose to live.

I have no references but if there was a problem in Thailand with Foreigners being killed I don't think Chiang Mia would be on the list.

But it would be worry some to some people here.

Don't know where you are from but put up a thread on the topic and see what you pick up.

Farang who got in the way of a Thai.

When did foreigner mean "falang"

In Thailand, most times, farang is interpreted as, white caucasian. Not always, but most of the time. Sometimes it is interpreted as foreigner, usually a white foreigner.

The point was that the OP said foreigner, normally Thai press says falang when it's a falang.

Too many posts conclude that it must have been a Caucasian.

Most foreigners in Thailand are Burmese, Laos or Khmer.

It seems to be every other day these news. A foreigner murdered by a local(which in this case it is not proven, but if it is 'the usual business' , I assume it is the case.)

Very sad the way thailand is going down the drains, also because they rely so much on tourists and foreigners economically.

I once wished to go to thailand to live, but after reading this forum, I would never do it. In fact , I would not even go there on holiday, I think.

It seems like a society gone mentally ill.

On one hand they do anything to appear white, on the other hand there is a real hatred for foreigners.

Now, if i was male, I would NEVER marry a thai, because how can you be really sure?

Don't know what the attitudes towards white females are, but there sure are a lot of attacks on those, too.

Luckily, Asia is large and there are plenty other countries to choose from. As it is now, Thailand would be at the very bottom of my list. Such a beautiful country, but such ugly mentality. Really sad.

I disagree, when foreigners have been killed in the past the Police have investigated and often catch the people responsible. Their motivation might be that it harms tourism but when foreigners are murdered its certainly looked into.

As for forensic science here. They don't have finger printing as far as I know and we can probably rule out DNA. Its basically a one woman band by the name of Pornthip Rojanasunand. She used to be in the papers all the time. haven't seen her face for a few years now.

Still, lets hope they catch the people responsible.

To send an email in not a good solution if you are thinking to keep your status anonymous. It can easily trace through cafe's log book, IP address, CCTV cam in the cafe etc. Sending printed hard-copy is always better, but remember, not of laser printer, as it also print several printer related codes in micro text format. And thus, it also can trace back. Inkjet or Bubble-jet or DOT Matrix is a better option.

I am sorry to hear about the death, may his soul rest in peace.

I've never had problems here. But then again I try to stay away from the bars(never met my wife there). But even doing that you can't stop everything. It's just generally more dangerous here than back home.

Work all your life and end up shoved into a nursing home playing dominoes with senile folk staring out the rain splattered window with mind numbing repeats of come dancing on in the background wondering what your life was really all about.

Alternatively retire here and live life on the edge fully aware that one wrong move, one wrong word, one wrong businesses deal you could end up like this poor bloke shot and dumped on the side of the road like a worthless animal.

I am not infering this man was done this way BUT why oh why oh why do so many aged wetern men marry these prostitutes. Just because they look sweet, they fall for it. Imagine driving to kings cross and marrying some brass in her fishnets, it would never happen. I dont know why Thais are so good at the game.

Silly silly men.

Yes, its sad but I think you're probably right. Even if there was vital forensic information its probably been destroyed. Certainly at the scene anyway. Lets hope they are caught using good old fashioned detective work.
