Where To Get Esri In Pattaya?

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a Nuvi 50 purchased in Australia.

I have played around with downloading ESRI Thailand maps but dont seem to be able to follow the instructions well enough to get them to work.

Im thinking I should be able to get the maps loaded at Tukcom in Pattaya

Does anyone have any experience of having them loaded at Tukcom ?

Any ideas on which stall holders may be able to offer this to me?

Thanks

wondra

You can try the shop on the Second Floor (Mobile Phone Floor) in the North West Corner. Sorry but I can't remember the name of the shop.

Edit: //

Please note he doesn't have version 12.3 yet, but he might be able to load version 12.1

Have any idea what the cost is?

I have version 10.0 and I would like to upgrade.

Map Update Cost

The update cost for TSM version 2012.30 is 450 baht*

* the cost is per one map version only.

Customers who buy GPS by Garmin (Thai OS units) are eligible for free map update for one year period starting from the purchase date.

After the period is expired, you need to pay the update cost.**

AS matter of interest if i upgrade does it wipe all the saved detinations on the old map, i purchased Gramain in the UK but got ESRI on disk here and added into the slot on the unit

Thanks

No idea if upgrading the map wipes hem out, but just to make sure you can use Basecamp (if you have Windows or a Mac) to backup your old way points and routes and after upgrading the map you can restore the backup.

Edit: //

Also make a copy of the Current.GPX file which is in the GPX directory in your GPS

How can you add a ESRI CD disk bought here and then add it to the microSD slot on your Garmin? There seems to be a step or two missing somewhere. If you bought a microSD map from ESRI, just pliug it in and your ready to go after selecting the new map.

I never used a CD i got a sd card here with the ESRI map on which i plugged into the sd slot on the unit to get the Thai map. I meant a secure digital card . I used the term disk with a k as opposed to a c to mean sd card not a compact disc as i use Skan Disk sd cards, should have been clearer. So just want to know does up dating the secure digital card overwrite added favourits.

^^ The favourites are stored in the Current.GPX (You should make a backup of this file if you want to keep your favorites) or make a backup of your favorites via Base Camp

Here is info from the Gps Society how to update Maps

How to update map for nuvi or Mobile XT

Map update: if you download map from gpssociety.com website, you will get a file names "gmapprom.img". Connect your nüvi to a computer via a USB cable. The computer will see nüvi as a removable drive (like a flash drive) such as G:\, for example.

For 3-digit models: when clicks at nüvi drive, Garmin folder will shown. When browse under this folder, there is a installed map file with the same name: gmapprom.img. You can copy and replace this file directly. If the file name is "gmapsupp.img", just delete it after copied the new file.

For 4-digit models: map file is located under Garmin\.system folder. Normally it is hidden by default. In Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder options... > View and click select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" and remove the check mark in front of "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)". Then the .system will be unhidden.

If you have additional question(s), please call: 0-2266-9945 or contact via email at: [email protected]

For Garmin Mobile XT: replace the file name "gmapprom.img" with (or gmapsupp.img) the new one under Storage Card/Garmin.

Note: it is a good idea to make a backup of previous map file first in case that you lost the map CD that comes with the package or if you have other country map file installed with the same file name: "gmapprom.img".

Adding the microSD card into the slot on your Garmin just installs another program which can be selected by using the [Map > Map Info] selection. It does not change the GPX file where your added favorites are stored.

Installing another program you would use the information provided on post #11 above.

What is/are Nuvi, ESRI, Tukom ?

From: Acronymphobe

.

Garmin is a leading manufacturer of GPS devices, The Nuvi is the most popular product line. These units sit on the dash of a vehicle or are attached to the windshield with a suction cup.

ESRI is a map maker who makes the best GPS map available for Thailand. The latest version is TSM 12.2. TSM means Thailand street map. Garmin uses this map for Thailand sold GPS units. Garmin also sells a South East Asia map that is much inferior to the ESRI TSM 12.2.

Tuk Com is a IT mall in Pattaya that specializes in Knock off counterfeit products. If you buy a new GPS, I would advise you to buy it from an authorized dealer such as Eagle GPS. They offer genuine products and support for normally the same prices as sellers such as book stores and shopping malls.

Now you know.

^^ The Shop I mentioned in Post #2 is not a Knock off / Counterfeit joint. He sells the Real Deal Garmin with the Original Warranty, same as Eagle GPS of course.

Of course not all the shops are knock off joints but many are. My wife's friend's farang husband bought a Garmin there at Tuk Com a couple days ago. She didn't know which shop. She also didn't know what model but said it cost 8,000 baht and the map was an extra 1,000 baht. That didn't sound right to me. He has now gone back to work and his wife will bring me the unit because she doesn't know how to use it. I'll know more after I see the unit and what map it has on it.
