Hand-Out Britain rears its ugly head again.

Like how oftain do you renew your pasport?

Price per year = next to sweet FA

Every 4 years though my next will be 3 1/2 because there is a good chance it will be filled before I return to the UK. On close examination I should be able to get 5 1/2 but if some immigration person who got up on the wrong side of bed decides to plonk an entry stamp in the middle of a full page I'd be stuffed. If a country such as Thailand or Malaysia decided to change their entry stamp and it was somewhat bigger then I'd be stuffed. It's the full page visa stamps or stickers which do me in. I'd like to see them reduced to a half page. I imagine I would then be able to get 7 years or perhaps 8 which would be great. Funny thin (or not) is that a early renewal gets you a maximum of 9 months (or is it 6) extra which is meaningless given it is going to be filled in less than 5 years anyway.

Another member mentioned that it costs more to produce a UK passport overseas but it is my understanding that now ALL UK passports are printed in the UK.

Thats right, I'm proud of coming from the UK, proud of the UK (for the most part) and proud of its record in settling refugee's and asylum seekers.

I'm proud of that as well. But we are not necessarly talking about proper asylum seekers we are talking about the leeches both domestic and imported that take.take.take. Because they can due to lax regulations and enforcement. It may have gotten better now but when I left 7 years ago. I had a few mates that were earning more from benefits than I was working .. that's not right.

There will always be a few bad apples I'm afraid - doesn't mean that the system, and the intent behind the system, is wrong IMO.

You may think the HMG is your servant as you elected them now you know differently, once elected they do as they please unless they are looking for a minority vote because they dont listen or serve the vast majority of the population of the UK. Fees for whatever go up as and when required and there is little you can do or say to affect this it applies to all parties, you just have to get on with it, its generally filed under inflation.

Very well said though somewhat off topic. The government is there to serve the will of the the people, they work for the people.

I renew mine every year - 48 pages is nothing if you travel to countries that need one page visas. £137 plus a trip to the UK because I can't wait 2 weeks to get a new passport = £1000+ pa.

I have two, due to the constant need for my company to get visa's for me, I remember the old Big Blue 90 page business passports with affection, they would last me 3-4 years. The new 48 page business passports generally last me 2 years, thats Both of them.

It most certainly hasnt got better, if anything it has got worse, seems to be a requiremant now in the UK to speak (insert your choice) eastern european language, or have to put up with rude and offensive (insert your african country of choice) people demanding they get preference.

Oh dear - none of what you've said here chimes with my experience of the UK. It's a beacon of multiculturalism IMO.

If you've not read a UK newspaper in 6 years that implies that you no longer live in the UK so how would you know what state the UK is in? Where do you get your information from?

I'm ashamed to be British.

I'm not having that sad.png - just think of Nelson standing on the bridge of the Victory at the Battle of Trafalagar and feel proud my friend.

OK its been mostly downhill since then but I maintain that the UK is still a pretty fine country to come from, live-in and migrate to.

I'm ashamed to be British.

I'm ashamed by the aggressive racist tattooed louts that swagger around foreign countries in shorts and singlets.

I'm ashamed of the justice/SS system that treats hard working white men as the lowest form of criminal.

I'm ashamed of the blatantly corrupt politicians and war criminals that run the country.

I'm ashamed of the government being lap dogs to the USA.

I'm ashamed of the way Britain treats it's pensioners.

I'm ashamed of the way Britain treats it's citizens who have married Asians.

^^^^ well said TP.

Wonder just how much the Hook Man debacle has cost the Uk taxpayer.

Fed up with the socialist nanny state in Europe dictating and pontificating to us about human rights and dignity, at least the French had the gumption to start getting rid of these free loaders.

The Uk the laughing stock of Europe Africa and Asia.

No its not.

I think you'll find talking to people from Africa and Asia that the UK, and its citizens, are failry well respected - that's why a lot of refugees fleeing persecution choose the UK as their destination when seeking ayslum.

An interesting perspective, do you really expect me to believe these spongers and free loaders rock up at Dover because they respect the UK and its citizens?

More likely they have total disrespect for either the UK or its citizens thats why they rock up in droves to claim the many benefits and entitlements on offer.

How many countries have these poor persecuted masses passed through enroute to the UK that they could have claimed asylum in, and why didnt they?

British taxpayers being played for fools.

I disagree and genuinely believe that a lot of refugees and asylum seekers, plus prospective immigrants, head to the UK because they've got an elevated opinion of the country, its people, sense of fair play, legal system, treatment of earlier migrants etc..

The UK has a hell of record in accepting waves of people from various war torn countries, persecution etc and IMHO its a record we should be proud of. The people from E Europe that didn't want to return to their own countries after WW2, the poles yugoslav's etc, the E Asians that Idi Amin expelled, Vietnamese boat people, migrants from the commonwealth, etc etc etc..

I've got a funny feeling that I wouldn't like to hear the explanation / justification for that remark (particulalry the highlighted part sad.png ).

Agreed.

Ignorant nonsense. Proportionally, more black men are in UK gaols than white. A black man is 30 times more likely to be stopped and searched by the police than a white man.

I'm ashamed of the blatantly corrupt politicians and war criminals that run the country.

Corrupt? How so? War criminals? What crimes?

I'm ashamed of the government being lap dogs to the USA.

Lap dogs? A bit harsh; but UK governments do defer to Washington too often.

I'm ashamed of the way Britain treats it's pensioners.

Being married to a Thai and living in the UK I'm ashamed of having to explain to her why so many old people in the UK live and die alone when they have children and grandchildren, often living nearby.

I'm ashamed of the way Britain treats it's citizens who have married Asians.

Even with the new rules which came into force in July, obtaining a spouse visa for the UK is still simpler than doing the same for Australia or the USA. It is certainly easier, for example, for a Thai spouse of a Brit to obtain ILR in the UK and then British citizenship than it is for a British spouse of a Thai to obtain PR in Thailand, let alone Thai citizenship!

Also, the same rules apply to all non EEA nationals, not just Asians. Most British citizens who marry Asians marry Indians or Pakistanis; but I suspect that's not what you meant!

Sometimes it's because they believe they'll get better treatment in the UK.

Sometimes it's because they have emotional or historical ties to the UK.

Sometimes it's because they speak English.

Sometimes it's because they have family in the UK.

Sometimes, though, it is because, like you seem to, they believe that when they arrive in the UK they'll instantly be given a council house and huge amounts of state money. Like you, they are wrong.

I suspect it's a hangover from the days when white men had all the privileges. Now that everyone has the same privileges the poor old white man feels hard done by.

Well, you obviously don't agree with

I'm ashamed of the government being lap dogs to the USA.

as you seem to want a British citizen to be extradited to the US on their say so without first going through the proper legal procedures!

War crimes

Margaret Thatcher ordering the sinking of the General Balgrano while it was retreating from the field of action.

Tony Blair, ordering the bombing of Belgrade radio station.

Corruption

MPs claiming false expenses, employing their wives as secretaries.

All the MPs that accept seats on companies boards after 'helping them' during their elected period.

Do you really need to ask?
