Magician arrested following armed street robbery in South Pattaya

PATTAYA:--A Magician who used to entertain tourists on Walking Street was arrested early on Wednesday morning accused of stealing a handbag at knife-point from a Thai Clothes Shop owner.

The incident began in Soi 11 off the South Pattaya Road where Police met with the victim of the robbery, Khun Patida aged 30, the shop owner, who explained how she had just parked her motorbike and was walking towards her shop when she was approached by a Thai man who had a distinctive tattoo on his left arm. He produced a knife and ordered Khun Patida to hand over her bag which contained Two mobile phones, a digital camera and some personal documents. She wisely complied and the suspect then made-good his escape.

Police were given a good description of the man who was spotted in front of the Grand Hall Market in Soi Baukao. He attempted to elude capture and as he ran from Police he discarded some of the stolen items including one of the phones and his knife. The suspect, who was soon captured and arrested, was named as Khun Waroon aged 20 who previously worked with his Uncle as a street magician on Walking Street until he was arrested and convicted of drug offences and sent to Prison.

Good One - Pattaya police.

Last week a friend of mine had her handbag stolen in Bangkok by a man who then made off on a motorbike.

There was a nearby Police box at a road junction - however the policeman inside said "it was nothing to do with him - because he was a traffic officer" and said she should go to a police station.

In the police station when attemting to give a description of the motorcycle and the clothes the attacker was wearing - she was stopped mid-sentence and told by the officer he didn't need that information!

My friend had just been through a very traumatic experience and lost several personal and important items - and yet again - the police show us that they really don't give a toss.

Got the obligatory police 'report' and told they will call if they find the bag. Somehow I don't think we should hold our breath waiting.
