Australian, 93, Faces Sexual Assault Charges In Thailand

I have one question, and I am asking it seriously.

At least here on the forum we often read about farang guys like this who get arrested, and tried, and suffer the consequences...as they should...if they are guilty.

But it seems like I almost never read about Thai men getting arrested and tried for it...particularly those who procure children for prostitution.

So what's the scoop on that?

The scoop is that ThaiVisa doesn't post news about Thai people.

Some people's only real source of knowledge about Thailand comes from news stories of interest to Expats (and the Expat crowd specifically on this site) posted here on ThaiVisa and posters who are clearly unable to fit in or feel a part of Thailand and of course they then conclude that any negative story about a Thais or Thai entity should be applied broadly to everyone in that group while any positive story should be ridiculed with ignorant thought and questioned as to its truthfulness. Kind of a sad life to live in a country that along with its people has so much to offer to offer anyone wishing to live a happy a life, at least in my opinion, but to each his own. Also sad when they take this to such a level that they will defend an accuses child molester by blaming victims for not over powering their sexual assaulter and coming up with the some very far out theories (almost all blaming Thais) for why this guy caught with a plethora of child porn including his posing with nude children is probably not guilty.

You drank the cool aid and now your ordering it in different flavors.

That no expats read Thai language newspapers on a regular basis?

Yes, and I understand that. But I guess what I am getting at is that Thailand has one of the highest rates of child prostitution in the world, and even according to a Thai organization -- Thailand’s Health System Research Institute -- "children in prostitution make up 40% of prostitutes in Thailand".

Is Thailand truly making a sustained effort to end child prostitution, which means going after those who run the rackets (and of course, those would be mostly Thais), or is it mostly just going after those who hire the prostitutes for their services? Or is it the old money under the table issue with Thais getting a definite preference.

Let me give you an example of what I mean, although it's not about prostitution. While I was still living in Bangkok, I sat for a couple of hours one day and watched the litter police fine people at the Queen's park down on Sukhuvit. I saw Thais litter and be ignored by the police, while in the exact same location farangs were being fined. Thai preference for Thais.

I'm not wearing this age defence thing.....there have been plenty of cases of elderly paedophiles preying on youngsters in SE Asia over the years, and from memory there was a case of the 79 year old ex-RAF man caught in the act with a boy in Pattaya a few months ago, setting aside the recent story of the 65 year old caught in the toilet cubicle.

Speaking from a medical background, huge difference between the physicial cabilities of a 93 year old as compared to a 79 or 65 year old man.

Anyway, whats with the kangaroo court and the hang him high approach?

Let due process happen before we skin the old codger alive hey?

I think you meant Thai preference for money

Don`t believe it.

I guess that this poor old man was set up.

An elderly man, probably has life savings and assets, ripe for exploitation.

poor old man? if the charges are true he will have ruined the lifes of those just about to start on what should be a wonderful life. If guilty I'd stick him in stocks in the centre of pattaya until he dies to set an example of what will happen to any other sick vile human being preying on kids.

Yes, If.

I hate pedophiles but I recall a lot of news coverage on this case as it happened here in Chiang Mai. There was a lot of questions about this case including as I recall some disgruntled relatives or something of these children not getting paid for something. I forget all the details but this guy was also a little senile or suffered from Alzheimer's. CNN, BBC, etc. were all here and covered it well. There were a lot of strange allegations like this guy sexually assaulting all 4 girls by force all at the same time when he was 91 or something. I don't know...let's see how the evidence unfolds before hanging this old guy. Like I said, I hate pedophiles and I have a small child but maybe...just maybe not every single one is guilty as charged.ermm.gif Having said that, I do not recall anything about 100 photos when CNN and BBC covered the story. If that is true then....

Even the Australian news provided info on the photos -- as for BBC and CNN, you can look up their past news stories online but I don't believe either covered the story ... interesting too is you can look up all sorts of news reports online so all your recalling incorrect info and speculation really has no purpose --- unless you are trying to spread false or at best unsourced information such as your claim it being reported that the guy was "senile or suffered from Alzheimer"

Nope. As has been said so many times before. The Australian press simply quoted word for word the press releases from the Bangkok Post. Those press releases go out to international agencies and those that subscribe quote what they wish from those sources. What this poster is saying is that BBC and CNN were there in the area and made no report of the photo's. Clear? Isn't it about time that YOU allowed other people an opinion without trying to drag them down everytime. You have lectured many on here about allowing others opinions, why not practice what you preach.

Good luck with that one thumbsup.gif Some of us tried that argument a long way back and faced 10 pages of abuse for it.

Seems like most of the abuse is coming from those who don't live in Thailand. Pity their ignorance.

I just took a dump and the BBC and CNN didn't cover the fact it was a bit runny. You know why, because they didn't cover the story about my dump ... the same I suspect is the case with this accused Pedophile who has a number of young girls tell of their abuse at his hands and who the police have found a plethora of child porn pictures in his possession along with pictures of him in these child porn pictures which some of which he sent to friends over seas as was witnessed by his made.

And by the way we are continuing to go down the road of lunacy when it is not enough that there has been claims of the police planting and faking the photos or just simply lying of their existance but now is the new idiocy to say the press has lied and the police never said they confiscated these pictures from his home????????

It's hard to believe that anyone living here would automatically believe The Royal Thai Police over a 90 year old man claiming extortion. :(

a number of young girls tell of their abuse

At least they're not claiming they saw him flying on a broomstick while his spirit transformed and killed people, like other children's testimonies.

Unfortunately there's Thais, money, and an easy target involved. sad.png

Don't automatically believe everything you read N. wink.png

And don't got to extreme to disbelieve the obvious and make yourself appear very desperate to defend a person who is almost certainly a pedophile even just based on the limited information released.

Children scared to leave house - parents question them - abuse comes out

Police state they confiscate more than a hundred child porn photos from his house some include him in the pictures

His maid states he saw child porn on his computer and that she saw him email the child porn to somebody overseas

The guy flees from authorities and illegally enters Burma (another place poor kids found) and stays in a rented house .. but authorities decide not press additional charges against him that would clearly be a slam dunk but instead hold him to prevent him once again from breaking both the law and his promise to appear while continuing with the original charges.

There has been numerous junctions in these court proceedings where evidence has been presented to judges that has allowed the charges to move forward because at the very minimum it has been determined he likely molested these children ... if that wasn't the case then the charges would not proceed.

But please continue going on against the likely obvious (his guilt) to defend the accused child molester in very off the wall ways (linking to witch accusations 400 years ago, LOL) but what is strange is you seem to take a completely difference stance about others accused of crimes here were much less evidence having been released .... not sure if it is the child molesting or that he is an old farang that is causing this contrast in you but like this case, we all have our opinions but this one is probably better left to one's self.

But whilst the BBC and CNN did not cover the story of your defecation they DID cover the story of the Australian.

Nothing in my post prompts you to go down the hysterical tirade concerning the 'road of lunacy'. You are demanding that you be allowed to have your opinion yet you do not give the same quarter to everyone else.

All that was said to you was the Australian media quoted word for word the press releases of the Bangkok Post, that's it. I made no comment on the validity of the reporting of the photo's so I will thank you to stop implying that I did. In the UK, there are a few newspapers that people would regard with suspicion stories that are printed in them, there are a few regarded as highly trustworthy. In Thailand we had a report from one news source and everything else is based on that. You just need to make up your mind the provenance of that information, and stop shooting the messenger.

All from the Royal Thai Police and the Thai media.

It counts for nothing. :(

"The guy flees from authorities and illegally enters Burma (another place poor kids found) and stays in a rented house"

A 90 year old man flees from the people extorting him! Shockingly condemning. rolleyes.gif

"There has been numerous junctions in these court proceedings where evidence has been presented to judges that has allowed the charges to move forward because at the very minimum it has been determined he likely molested these children ... if that wasn't the case then the charges would not proceed."

How long did Andrew Clements spend in prison? (where he was extorted for everything he had btw)

There was NO evidence against him, except for an absolutely ludicrous claim by a disgruntled mother!

You don't appear to be very clued in to how Thailand operates. :(

All that was said to you was the Australian media quoted word for word the press releases of the Bangkok Post,

Unfortunately it was the same for Andrew Clements (International School teacher in Phuket).

Western media copied the Thai media of his arrest and the allegations against him.

All on absolutely no actual 'evidence', in a case that would eventually get thrown out of court after he spent how long in Thai prison?

Western career as a teacher finished! sad.png

But hey, that's Thais,Thai police and media for you. sad.png

I believe the police and have lived here for 20 years.. I'm always wary of guys over 60 moving here. Usually it involves unnatural/deviant sex or paid sex with strangers. Even if they're not in Pattaya.

A 93 y/o? Why on earth was he here and not playing with his great-grand kids.

Link?

You just had a poster living in the area who said they were there. Find your own links.

It was reported in the Thai Press that the recently and tragically murdered Oswald Duval was a serial child beater and wife beater and that is why he was murdered. During a court case it was subsequently found out that the three who murdered him were lying through their back teeth. Yet the press reported it anyway and grossly defamed the character of someone who we now know was a salt of the earth character. ALL WE ARE SAYING is give the man his day in court and let justice take place, then depending on the verdict you and a few others here can either scream to your hearts content how his innards should be pulled out while he lives OR you can offer an apology to the members of TV who have contributed to this thread that have said 'wait for the court case'.

I am always wary of guys under 55 moving here. Why would they come to Thailand when they could get beautiful young women at home. It must involve unnatural/deviant sex or even worse paid for sex with strangers. Thailand knowing this makes the visas much easier to get for those over 55 and the normal women here like older men much more than young boys. biggrin.png

What normal woman likes old men over men their own age?

You have fallen for the the old lie. I guess normal women call you 'handsum man" and you believe that too.

Women after quick cash might find an old codger on a dating site knowing that they will be rich after a few years graft.

They say 'you are what you eat' and also 'you reflect the company you keep', so working on the later saying you either keep the company of some really bad people or you don't. If you don't then your statement above can only be from hearsay or reading the news of the world or some similar 'quality' rag mags. And if you do keep such bad company then I for one am not interested in hearing from you.

I hope if you still live here when you are 60 that you remember some nasty little person 25 years your junior will see you walking around Bangkok thinking, 'see that old geezer, he must be a perv and a pedo'. It's plain nasty John. There is an old boy lives about 8 miles from us, whom I meet now and again. His wife, son, daughter and two grand children were all wiped out in an auto crash back home. After a year of despising waking up each morning in the same house in the same town he had lived with his wife of 45 years, being reminded of his loss at every turning point, he sold up and came out here, as far away as he could from home, where he thought it would be warm and friendly. He lives a nice warm friendly life now. He has a great house maid that takes care of him as if he were her father and she is well re-numerated. He is not in a relationship and what he gets when he goes for his odd massage is his business. The Irony is that when he came here he was frightened he may face hostility from the locals, and he doesn't, he faces hostility from people like you. How sad is that! Go take a look in the mirror and remember how you look, because in 25 years you will still look through the same young eyes and think the same as a young man, but oh how father time will abandon you and let you down, as you look at those wrinkles and grey hair, and you will think, why do those young foreign lads stare at me like I am an alien, at least I hope that's what they do, but you might just be lucky and find good people who take you for who you are. Got a mirror handy?
