Egat To Reduce Electricity Generation Costs Over Summer

EGAT plan to reduce electricity generation costs over summer

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand Public Company Limited, or EGAT, has set a plan to reduce electricity generation costs during the upcoming hot season, and is asking for the public to help reduce usage by 10% per person.

EGAT Deputy Chief Director Phichai Jullaphongsathorn (พิชัย จุลพงศธร) said the company will quickly proceed with its scheme to reduce generation costs during this summer. EGAT will increase power generation from coal power plants and prepare the Maemoa (แม่เมาะ) Plant for feeding the grid with power over the hot season. EGAT is also postponing the detaching of the Lamtakhong-Nakhonratchasima (ลำตะคอง-นครราชสีมา) power feed line from the peak period of electricity demand in the summer, in order to allow the most power to be sent from the central region to the northeast. The entity is also planning to increase generation from the Lamtakhong Plant to increase generating capacity in the northeast and reduce diesel usage at another plant.

The company is also asking for the public to help reduce energy usage by 10% per person, as this would help keep demand over the summer from peaking too high and reducing reliance on expensive fuel in generating power.
