An English man has just been compensated for the death of his daughter.

She was killed by an elephant whilst at the park.

At first he was offered 3 years free enrtry to the park.

But the park eventually agreed to pay a sum in excess of £70,000.

Compensation, Thai style :o

its never very much, I heard of a (thai) couple in Phuket being awarded 10K for their baby that was killed by a drunk driver, how much did the tsunami victims get?

I would suspect that most farangs would have some type of travel insurance, not sure if the tsunami would be covered....

Don`t really think any amount of money would compensate for a loved one.....

Odd story - however I guess when you are among animals anything is possible.

3yrs entry in the park - I'm utterly speechless, can't even comment on what I think of the brilliant lad who offered that as compensation. :o

I think the story was covered here before...she was given bananas to feed the animal and she kept teasing him....her father was also injured... I believe she received more than a leg injury.

Naka, I didn't make myself clear, I was referring to Thai tsumami victims, I believe they got aroud 10,000 baht for the loss of each of family member, 15,000 for the head of the family, the government paid this to the ictims familys, my point is compensation in Thailand is generally very low

Are you confusing this situation with the Taylor family who were feeding the elephants bananas when an elephant went berserk and gored Andrea Taylor to death and severely injured her sister Helen? At the time there were some comments about teasing.

To offer 3 years free entry to the father to see the show is tantamount to the highest level of stupidity and total lack of empathy.

Yes that is the one the OP is relating to...I got this from a search of the incident.

Briton gored to death by elephant

By Alex Spillius, South East Asia Correspondent, and Nigel Bunyan

April 26, 2001

Witnesses to the attack at Nong Nooch, near the resort of Pattaya, claimed the dead woman had been teasing the elephant with a banana moments before it lunged over a ledge towards her. Sethaphan Buddhani, a director of the Tourist Authority of Thailand, said the elephant's keeper had claimed Miss Taylor tried to feed the elephant with a banana, then teased him by twice pulling back her hand.

Another recent link showed that the family was seeking compensation. I dont disagree with that... but if you tease any animal then you have to expect that animal to react...to tease a 3 tonne animal was stupid..The family have to accept that she had a degree of culpability in the tragic accident if she had teased the elephant with food.

BTW from other reports it seems the elephant is still working there.

Definitive not!

Noon Nooch is a touristspot and not a Nationpark! As a paying visitor, you should be save from incidents like this... the mahout fukced it up!

3 years free entry, 2000฿ for a deadbeaten student, TiT :o

I would think that even the most experienced mahout would have trouble handling a pissed off 3 tonne elephant.... :o

You cant always save people from themselves...
