Not really a drinker nor get into the beer bar thing. But I have a friend who will be visiting for a few days next month. He is from Iceland and I know he like to have a few. In Bangkok as well as Pattaya I know some bars where expats from Iceland hang out.

Are there any in Chiang Mai he might like wiith a few of his own countrymen there ?

Why travel to Thailand if you want to mingle with people from the home country? rolleyes.gif

Like you do 15 hours a day on an Internet forum.

Pot kettle black.

Not many from my home country on the forum. wink.png

Um.. The entire population of Iceland is about 300,000 people. How many of them do you suppose are in Chiang Mai at any given time? Enough to fill a dedicated bar?

Of course if you can hit other Scandinavians, but even for example a Danish owned bar will not have a significant number of Danes in there compared to any other nationality.

Finally, the state of Farang-aimed bars in Chiang Mai is such that you'd be VERY lucky to find a bar that's fun to hang out in. Nationality of other customers should be a very distant last priority.

If you think about it, it seems the expats and tourists we see (AND HEAR..yes thats you NEW YORKERS) maybe only represent less than 20 countries...the dominance seems to be the Brits, US/Can/Aus/scandinavian 4/ but then it severely tinkers off to odd other European (and yes they are odd).

I was pally with a guy from Greenland once in Phuket, That was rivetting, not surprised he came to Phuket for 4 months a year, the only thing we enjoy discussing was the smell of fish.

So let me get this straight,

  1. Semper is from Mars and spends 15 hours a day reporting back home. there is no intelegent life in Thailand
  2. No one from Iceland lives or visits Chiang Mai ? let along passes throught and stops for a beer ?

Did I miss anything else ?

Why didnt you just lie in your thread and say your friend comes from Australia...then he will have a much better time here.

Iceland, despite the desire of their corrupt govenment gave all the bankers the finger, sounds like drinking in an Icelandic bar is one of the few free institutions left on the planet. The majority Nanny State members here wouldn't be interested as it is a foreign concept.
