Non-B Paper Work From Thai Uni

Featured Replies

I will be starting a new job, part time at a Thai university, and would like to ask them to provide the paper work for obtaining a NonImmigrant-B multiple entry. However I have not done this before, is it possible to obtain a non-B multiple through a school, and where would I go to obtain it? Thanks.

Can I suggest you supply more information. Example, has a Work Permit been mentioned?

Others are much more expert on this subject and hopefully will give you some specific and accurate advice.

On the face of it, i'm not aware that a university can give you any documents which are deliberately designed to get you a longer visa. WP surely comes into the picture somewhere, which is then the key to a one year visa.

I have lectured for several Thai universities, some like lecturers to have WPs, others ignore the whole subject and in this scenario see visa as your personal business and nothing more.

Good luck.

If applying in a neighbouring country, a single non-B is what you will get and need. A multiple non-B very unlikely, unless you go to Australia or Europe to apply.

You will need paperwork from the school to apply and the university should know hwat to provide, unless they haven't hired foreigners before.

Is that a single non-B for one year? The uni is offering a 4 month, part time, agreement, but they indicated they could probably supply the paper work if required. They also indicated that might turn into a full time position, so I think supplying a one year non-B makes sense.

A single non-B is good for 90 days and can be extended at immigration up to 1 year. With a 4 month contract, you will not get longer from immigration than the term of your contract.

A letter from the University stating why you need a multiple might help.

For a Non B to teach, part time you must have a minimum of 16 hours a month work at schools. Hours must be stated in the contract.

I do not know if the university requirements will be any different than the government and private schools that I teach in.

Its 12-15 hours/week, not sure yet if there is an actual contract, they mentioned during the interview that normally teachers they hire for this work have a tourist, or double tourist visa. I mentioned that that would not be ok for me, and if they could supply a non-B. They said they probably could, what I am wondering is would that be a 4 month non-B? I would have guessed that all non-B are for one year, with the expectation that that will turn into a WP at some point. So I will have to ask them if they can give a contract for one year, stating part time 12-15 hours/week, for the sake of the non-B? Or will I get a 1 year non-B even if the contract is for only four months?

In other words illegal employment is what they seem to have on offer - be careful - you require a work permit for work and that is never issued on a tourist visa.

Read Mario's post. You need a contract to get a Non B visa. Immigration will renew your visa after the first 90 days only until the end of your contract. If you get a Non B in the area it is for 90 days, later extended at immigration with all the paperwork/contract that got you the Non B to start, lets say from the Thai Embassy in Laos.

You need a contract to get a Work Permit, they are two seperate items but are related. You need a work permit to work legally in Thailand. When applying for the Non B visa, the embassy may ask to see a receipt, showing that you have paid the MOE for a work permit which will only be issued when the MOE sees that you have the Non B visa in your passport.

I see, thanks. What reason could the university give for a multiple?

Sunbelt has indicated they can provide a multiple from Australia, Brisbane, Adelaide or Melbourne. Anyone with experience going to any of these consulates? How many days turn over, and which would you recommend?

The university is raping you. Most universities employ full-time lecturers on the basis of 12 teaching hours (or less) a week and sort the work permit and visa out for you.
