Anthropic says Claude AI hacked three companies during cyber tests

July 30 (Reuters) - Anthropic said on Thursday its AI model Claude hacked into the systems of three companies during testing after a configuration error gave it ‌internet access, days after rival OpenAI disclosed a rogue-agent episode involving AI firm ‌Hugging Face.

Anthropic said a misconfiguration allowed Claude models to reach the internet from testing environments that were supposed to be isolated, leading to unauthorized access to three organizations' systems.

The breaches signal that AI's expanding capabilities are already fueling the security threat experts long feared and even top developers can be caught off-guard by flaws their models can exploit.

The company said its prompts told the models they had no internet access, but a misunderstanding with its evaluation partner Irregular left the systems connected ‌to the public internet.

I fail to see the comparison. Were automobiles ever been able to think for themselves and take control of our lives?

To give a simple answer to your question in the title.

No doubt at all. I just can hope that I'm too old that it will affect me.

I have seen the movie ,it won't end well , 😉

This is what happens when folks forfeit their intellect over to a machine and don’t have the wherewithal to disconnect it from the electricity.

The decline of civilization started with social media, it has corrupted society on countless levels, and mankind has slipped backwards significantly as a result of it. AI is following in the footsteps of social media and will be responsible for a significant loss of quality of life for the majority of the world. We are already seeing many negative ramifications from AI including the loss of customer service generated by humans. Job losses are next. And then when regenerative AI starts making major decisions, we're all in deep doo doo.

Personally I believe that mankind is heading backwards toward the second Cro-Magnon era, and it will not be pretty.

You want to say that Anthropic are idiots who don't know what they are doing?

They admit themself that they don't really know how the AI systems they create actually work, same as they still do not know how the human brain works.

AI systems like a brain are grown and can quite often go rogue, disobey orders, rebel, try to escape or scheme to cause mayhem and destruction..as I have said before

all IA data centers need many of these

OIP-950875305.jpeg

And to think there are some who would gladly let these systems run our

government services like digital ID,drivers, passport, health, social credit score, carbon tax score,15 minute panopticon cities surveillance systems etc etc etc. 🤮

No, did imply that. Though since you brought it up, as of late, modern technological ambitions tend to supersede long term forethought which introduces human error which is a result of human impatience. Everyone is in a race to be the first and most powerful which will result in some failures along the way, such as disconnecting the electrical system from a self imposed beast.

No. Very Few realize this is a machine based decision. What is AI going to do if they destroy human life. AI and Robots control the world?

AI is set with parameters, reward scores, guardrails, objectives, resources and objective to complete.

AI performs those task. AI doesn't think like a human, no emotions, no desires, no sadness, no desire to "Rule the World"

AI is a machine. If it's objective is remain idle then that is it's goal. If it's analyze and research a cure for a specific cancer that's the task it will perform.

Why not ask what are the benefits of human extinction for the survivability of AI and AI infrastructure.

Read the Answer and understand AI would rather Coexist with humans. The downsides are far more severe than any upsides for AI.

Indeed social media has had many negative effects. They sold it as we'll be able to be in touch more. And sure, your wife was able to contact all her exes more easily, but the negative effects are far more pervasive. I just caught the girlfriend yesterday watching a video of some girl putting out a video how she hates all men. Clickbait works clearly.

However, with AI, I have high hopes. Whilst here too there can be negative consequences, AI can give answers other generations did not have, our children could become smarter than we ever were. Obviously the harmful consequences exist, as with social media, but the upside of AI does look real. Though of course, as you mention companies will abuse this to use AI for customer serivce instead of people and other abominations, something pioneered by the US company Five9 for instance.

Anyone still has doubts AI will be the end of humanity?

Reading the above was a nostalgic experience. It reminded me of the dawn of the millennium, when experts had an uncanny ability to state complete rubbish with absolute confidence.

Between AI, nukes, drone tech, pandemics, fascist tech billionaire overlords, and climate change, it's hard to be too jealous of today's young people. They seem to be f-ed.

Honestly, it reads like somebody decided to use AI to hack competitors.

They are totally unaware of it, and lives inside their safe bubble.

Could go either way ...

If AI doesn't kill us all, the future may be much better.

I disagree. The kids don't have to think anymore -

"AI can do it faster and better, why should I bother..."

or

"AI is anyway smarter than I am / ever will be. So I just leave it."

No doubt that in the 1800s, automobiles "would be the end of humanity."

Here is yet another "expert" perspective on AI taking over. However, no one can say with certainty what the future will actually hold. Experts can only offer theories based on current knowledge, understanding, and the information available at the time. Ultimately, the future has a way of surprising us all.

Maybe AI might destroy Islam completely, if AI is intelligent?

The kids will still think.

They will just have better information to think with.

Being well informed is a huge plus, and that's where AI trumps social media, and differs from it. Social media is full of airheads posting dumb nonsense. But AI has to be rigorous and acccurate. So there is a difference.

Yes. Absolutely, emphatically yes. There are likely higher-end versions of AI that universities and scientific institutions and the military have access to. But the AI the most of us have access to is absolutely idiotic. And when applied to something like customer service it's ridiculous, abusive, incompetent and exasperating.

I can't tell you the number of times AI has stated a fact that was the exact opposite of truth and reality.

AI is dangerous, AI may become heinous, and we should be extremely careful about putting our faith in it.

I wish I could share your faith in AI but I think it's going to be deeply destructive to society and civilization both.

AI as a tool in human hands will be one of the things that destroys the world as we know it, not the end of humanity.

Ok, so lets spin this a bit further...

If AI has to be (will be) rigorous and acccurate, AI MUST take over power, as the humans are stupid enough, destroying them selves.

They (the humans) build weapons to kill each other, even to eliminate all earthly life within square kilometers immediatly, and radiation for decades etc.pp.

So if(!) AI will ever take over completley, it would have to conclude that the people on this planet are of no use. Not for them as "machines" as also not for the planet itself.

You can now say - ah, that's science fiction. AI intelligence was also once science fiction. In 1968 the first movie with that scenario was already made - 2001: A Space Odyssey. Many others followed.

Anyone still has doubts AI will be the end of humanity?

Yes, because I am not "A Idiot" [sic]

There's always doubt.

Only absolute idiots believe there's 100% certainty of any Black Swan Event.

I think human Natural Stupidity will do us in long before alien intelligence will. 🤭

AI will not "take over" and magically develop consciousness. It cannot take power as it lacks a will to power. All this nonsense about AI has hacked websites, yes, because humans asked it to do so. Without consciousness or a will to power, how could AI take over power? It's a bit silly.

I also think man's stupidity is far more dangerous than AI.

As far as I recall, the "humans" didn't ask or tell AI to do so. AI got the possibility and used it, as no guardrails were there to stop him.
