Looking For Graphic Designer

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm looking for a graphic designer to design a simple company logo and banner for a travel company. Any recommendations on where to look? and approx going rates? How does the process work, would they send you drafts first for you to choose , before any payment is made

I wonder if its better to get a local to do it, or look for a freelancer abroad. Thanks

Just Google 'logo design' and you will find 100s. Tell them what you want and they will design it. If it's a small job you'll probably need to pay upfront. Check feedback, past designs, etc. Just get someone online, as it's much cheaper. And the quality is usually superb if you pick the right company/person.

10 years graphic / web designer here.

It most times works like this 50% down at time of agreement 50% of the cash after finished product accepted.

The designer might offer 3 or for ideas in rough form, you pick the one you like and they complete it to perfection.

You don't want to pay 100% down because they might not finish it, you don't want to withhold more than 50% of you won't get a good graphic designer working for you.

It helps the most when you have a pretty good idea of what you want, and examples of logos that look almost the same, and banners that look almost the same as what you want, other than that some people do just trust the designers talent to make something unique, but it can go sideways with that.

Consider some companies spend upwards of 1 million on a logo, most companies spend around $500 USD.

Many times a solid black logo has advantages of easily being transfered to print, web, and that is why you see the nike swoosh or apple logo so simple.

Other times a logo is made with the most detail possible to show a depth of character like a say a coat of arms.

Good luck on your search, keep in mind it is pretty normal for cheap graphic designers to be stealing others logos or using clipart to provide a logo cheaply, that is why it is nice to see variation on designs, choose one and ask for a little change.

You don't want to be using someone elses logo unknowingly.

ps... I wouldn't choose someone On-line, graphics are very personal, it really helps to be sat infront the designer believe it or not, the time you will spend on a computer could be better spent with an artist, in real time so they can truly understand what you like.

A good graphic artist and whip up a mock up of your graphics right infront of you so you can say, yes, no, maybe a little different blah blah..

We used a guy called Ron Raine from Vision Plus (he also has a spinoff company Ad- entity) who sent us examples based on our initial talks then we sat with him and tweaks the design we liked.

We were really impressed with his keeness to give us a standout logo but also his ability to tactfully tell us when we were being stupid! He also advised us how to save money w/out being cheap even tho it meant less money in his pocket. Subsequently we're using him for our next startup and have a meeting Tuesday.

At a cost of 500/600 usd I'm happy to recommend him all day.
