Meeting with red shirts not over anger about new govt line-up: Noppadon

BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will on Thursday visit Hong Kong to meet his supporters, including members of the red-shirt movement, his legal adviser Noppadon Pattama said yesterday.

Noppadon and Pheu Thai sources said that Thaksin might either stop off in Cambodia or Myanmar's Tachilek area, which borders Chiang Rai.

"I don't want to confirm Thaksin's itinerary because I am not sure about his travel plans," Noppadon said.

He dismissed speculation that Thaksin's trip coincided with the growing dissatisfaction among the red shirts and certain Pheu Thai factions in connection with the latest Cabinet line-up.

He said the new Cabinet list has yet to be formally announced and that Thaksin was not paying any attention to allegations of fights ensuing over the allocation of Cabinet seats.

While Government House is in the process of submitting the Cabinet line-up for royal approval, Pheu Thai officials said various factions are lobbying for the revision of certain portfolios because they claim that the new job allocation has failed to comply with earlier agreements.

For instance, Cabinet seats allocated to allies of Thaksin's sister Yaowapha Wongsawat are said to be contrary to the agreement.

However, party officials said it was too late to amend the line-up because the list was already on its way to the Palace.

They also said that Thaksin would mediate and dispel dissatisfaction over the changes.

In a last-ditch attempt to appease the red shirts, a Pheu Thai powerbroker tried to make an about-turn by offering a Cabinet seat to their leader Jatuporn Promphan.

But Jatuporn turned down the offer.

Government House sources said government spokeswoman Sansanee Nakpong was put down for the position of PM's Office Minister at the last minute. She was apparently given the job simply because Pheu Thai executive Phumtham Wechayachai declined the appointment.

Phumtham reportedly wants to work directly under the prime minister but his job description says that he would have to report via PM's secretary-general Suranand Vejjajiva.

At the weekly press conference held by the red shirts, the group's chairperson Thida Thawornseth questioned why Jatuporn had been overlooked in the new Cabinet line-up and reminded the government of the relationship it has with Pheu Thai and the red shirts. She also said that this government was elected thanks to votes from the red-shirt supporters.

A subtle warning

"I understand the government has to cope with political turbulence but it cannot survive without popular support," she said, adding that she was disappointed that the administration chose to abandon Jatuporn in order to appease the elite.

Jatuporn, meanwhile, said that what happened to him was a sign of weakness as the government was trying to cling to power by bowing to the elite and neglecting to heed people's aspirations.

He said he swore that he and fellow red-shirt leader Natthawut Saikua had never asked for any position or monetary rewards from Thaksin when they met in Hong Kong earlier this month.

"I accept the reality - I am a fighter who has many defects after the battle, hence I've been delegated to the back row," he said.

He also voiced disappointment that many people who had not taken part in the battle had moved up in the ranks, while a fighter like him had no choice but to look on. He warned the government that corruption, abuse of power and abandoning the people would cause it to lose its power base.

Thus far, the red shirts have been protecting the government, but this will not be the case if the people's wishes, such as the charter rewrite, go unheeded, he warned.

"The opponents are waiting gleefully to see me lead the red shirts to chase this government out," he said.

Not meeting the Red Shirts?

No of course not Thaksins visiting the A.T.M. in Hong Kong to withdraw some money from his account that recently received a large deposit from Thailand. The cash withdrawn will placate the losers or so Thaksin hopes.

Nice to see aunt Thida is getting her red bloomers in a twist..

The genie is out of the bottle and it's going to be an interesting scenario to see how this new situation develops and of course how it is handled domestically and politically and by the police and the military.

Jatuporn, meanwhile, said that what happened to him was a sign of weakness as the government was trying to cling to power by bowing to the elite and neglecting to heed people's aspirations.

Delusions of grandeur,Jutuporn is totally dispensable as in Thaksins view the only person to be allowed in the limelight and the seat of power is himself alone.

Jutuporns comments show his desperation to attain power and he will sell himself to any interested parties to achieve his ends.Somehow I don't see any of his old foes accepting him into the fold, and of course Thaksin controls the purse strings...

Jutuporn and the Red Shirts have (as many of us have prophesied) been sold down the river, the same applies to the Thai people too they are all the sacrifices on the altar of Thaksins power lust and his and his family's and their brown nosing cronies in their blatant actions in gutting this country financially as the assorted scams schemes now operating so plainly show.

Jutuporn you may not have known it before but now you are discovering that, '' You need a long spoon to sup with the devil.''

Jutuporn.

Some have greatness thrust upon them others get it thrust up them.whistling.gif

I agree with your take on the situation, but whatever happens between now and the next election the 'bozo's from the North' will still ink their mark next to Pheu Thai's candidate even if it was a monkey they were voting for.

(Thida) also said that this government was elected thanks to votes from the red-shirt supporters.

And Thida was elected thanks to votes from who? Or should that be Thiida was installed thanks to her husband. A nepotistic "pro-democracy" movement that only supports one party. You couldn't make it up if you tried.

One of these days Noppadon will utter a truthful statement - probably a slip of the tongue.

I wait for the day the red shirts march on parliament to string up the Shinawatras!

According to that which we read and hear the divisions within the assorted support camps are becoming more marked as the leaders of the assorted faction begin to realize just how they have been duped.

Now, will these factions unite against the P.T.P. or will infighting be the result of these various splinter groups as they meet with reality head on ?

Looking at the leaders I certainly cannot see anyone strong enough to unite them into a cohesive anti P.T.P.group.

Too many egotists who have no interest in anything but their own personal agendas and incomes, none of these groups have strong financial resources and the paymaster isn't going to fund them.

Going to be interesting to watch the developments over the next 6 to 9 months.

One is left to wonder just how many unknown political stalking horses are out in the murky distance waiting to seize power?

There are indeed, a large number of newly returned politicians along with a number of still banned but powerful politicians all with vested interests who are also lurking in the political undergrowth of Thailand.

Discord is an essential part of the Thaksin way of managing his support team. Each part may be a different layer of the onion for Thaksin, but what he doesn't want is a united movement which was potentially subject to takeover by someone else in the team . By keeping them separate and constantly bitching, Thakisn stays as the ringmaster and centre of attention.

Now if only that Royal endorsement was not forthcoming, a coup certainly would be. We live in hope. In the interim the puppet master has his hands full deciding which pawns to sacrifice in the next (dog and pony show) shuffle. The HK meetings are becoming a bit regular so why not try for extradition? He is after all a convicted criminal on the run apart from being a bail jumper. And has a heap more charges waiting for him. Hmmm? Anybody??? Hmmm?

How much money did Thaskin recently receive from Thailand? Is this rumor or fact? Where did the money come from?

Is there a link to see the details?

Exactly; divide and control the greater group, and play them off each other,

and then apease some losers from the top, hanging on tenterhooks,

and keep them on the back foot until they are needed as a singular unit.

But in the mean time let their egos and "aspirations" hold them back together,

while a select few get the lime light... for a spell.

Works for the nation as well as his own team of misbegotten players.

Yes the onion metaphor is right on.
