Silvio Berlusconi sentenced for tax fraud

MILAN: -- Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been handed a jail sentence and barred from office after being found guilty of tax fraud.

The Milan court sentenced him to four years but later cut it to one year because of an amnesty law.

Mr Berlusconi condemned the sentence as "intolerable judicial harassment". He will remain free pending appeals.

He and others were accused of buying US film rights at inflated prices via two offshore companies under his control.

It is the first time Mr Berlusconi - who has faced a number of trials - has been convicted of any crime concerning his business activities.

Is this Alice in Wonderland stuff or what?

Surely there must be some bright and promising young people who could take over from jokers like this

Mr Berlusconi told Italian TV he wanted to "reform the justice system so that what happened to me doesn't happen to other citizens"

.

i wonder if reforming the justice system means getting revenge on the judge who sentenced him?

Berlusconi get 4 years but him not will go in jail.

This is just first step of judgment. In Italy have 3 steps of judgment.

Until will have the third step will be prescribes. This mean him not will go in jail.

And even after that he will not go to jail, since there is a law in Italy that says that convicts older than 70 will get their sentence converted to house arrest.

This was the guy who, back in 1993, raised to power "to save Italy" from the communists. After 20 years, Italy's public debt sky rocketed thanks to his government and 4 days ago he broadcasted a video message declaring not to run as PM candidate for his party in next year general election. The next day, the court's verdict came as a punch in the stomach making Berlusconi pissed off thus changing his mind. He decided to run as high as he can in order to change Italy's Law system because "he does not want any other italian citizen to go through what he has endured...". Besides, he is considering to pull the plug to Monti's government. Not to mention, the stock market reacted widening the spread between Italian and German Bonds.

After 20 years, italian citizens have had enough. Their only hopes lie now on bunga bunga parties: as he is next to his 76th birthday, he might overdose with VIAGRA and that will be the day Italians will finally get rid of him. Inshallah !
