A Thai businessman is investing more than 30 million THB to start up a new airline at Udon Thani airport. He has purchased a 10-seat Piper aircraft for chartered domestic flights. His goal is to eventually make Udon Thani airport a major hub of flights in the area.

UDON THANI – October 28, 2012 [PDN]; A new airline at Udon Thani airport will initially offer rentals of a 10-seat plane to fly from Udon Thani to Pitsanulok/Ubon Ratchathani. The propeller-driven aircraft is a Piper Navajo model, and was bought second hand in America for 15 million THB. The plane from America will arrive at the end of November.

Making the announcement was Mr. Pornthep Saksutjarit, the chairman of Udon Thani Industrial Council, and administrator of the new airline, Udon Mastertech Co., Ltd. Mr. Pornthep registered the airline in the name of Ratchapreuk airline, but the trademarked name for the new company is “Mastertech Airline.”

Mr. Porthep has registered a capital fund of 30 million THB in startup costs. Once the new business is established, expanded flights are planned to neighboring countries such as Laos and Cambodia, as well as Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

The company’s next plane is an Amber Blue Lance, expected to begin flying in mid-January 2013. The targeted customers for the new airline are groups of Thai and foreign businessmen involved in AEC. However, tourists will also be part of the customer base, he said. The airline has completed setting up its office and ticket selling operations, and is awaiting registration documents and the delivery of the Piper plane from America.

Possibly a good choice for the local work. Good to see him having a shot at it but watch out for the duopoly and competitors who will think nothing of taking you out.

Once again it looks like us poor blokes in Phetchabun are going to miss out - it flies right over our beautiful airport which has no scheduled flights.

Wish full thinking.

Given that the bus to Bangkok is 300 baht.

For many people, including myself, travel time is paramount and travel is not based on a shoestring budget. Further, I would not set foot in a Thai bus on these roads for any reason. Would be great to see more local and quality charter service in the area.

Try telling Thai people who live and work in agricultural areas such as Phetchabun who earn 200 baht a day that "travel time is paramount and travel is not based on a shoestring budget".

Wakey wakey,my old mucker you are the minority, just because you have the time and money doesn't mean that it should be available just to make your life easier,it's all about supply and demand, and sadly there is no demand for air travel in Phetchabun.

Travel time? No big problem, but security concerns are. Bus, only when no other easy possibility,

since many years in TH from Satun-Chiang Rai from Mukdahan-Kanchanaburi-Phuket a Bus NO!

By air, car self driven and Motorbike, self driven of course to.

I lived long in Chaiyaphum province 85 km to Khon Kaen city and airport, or about 380 km to Bangkok by road.

That is about the same, than the 370 km from Phetchabun to BKK.

I used the flight possibility many times, drove everywhere with a car, never with a Bus!

Khon Kaen flights are not so bad booked either, from all kinds of people. I would fly when I in Phetchabun or drive myself some times.

You need to start making friends with the rich folk who take chartered flights to their 'Swiss resorts' up your way. Then hitch a ride.......;)
