Thaksin to discuss Dawei in Myanmar: Noppodon

BANGKOK: -- Ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra plans to visit Myanmar in order to meet its leaders to pave the way for huge investment in the Dawei deep-sea port project ahead of joint committees between the two nations in Thailand soon, his legal adviser said yesterday.

Referring to news that Thaksin was due to visit Tachilek, a border town in Myanmar's Shan State across from Mae Sai in Chiang Rai, Noppadol Pattama told the press that this was true.

He said Thaksin planned to visit Myanmar in the second week of November. "During his visit to Myanmar this time, he plans to meet with Myanmar's leaders and stay over there for two to three days."

A source at Government House said Thaksin wanted to discuss progress on the Dawei project with Myanmar's leaders as well as acknowledge obstacles that have delayed the project before the joint committees of two countries meet here on November 7 and 8.

I guess with his experience in corruption he's the only man for the job. Can you imagine him trusting anyone else with such a task. No surprises.

And tomorrow he is going to say that Thaksin has no hand in how the government makes decisions and Yingluck is in full charge.

Given that Thaksin is no-longer even a millionaire, so cannot afford to invest directly in projects like this, according to his own statement to the press in Korea, and that he is a self-exiled fugitive from his former country, why does he seem to think he has any role to play in government-to-government negotiations on major infrastructure-projects like this ?

When will alleged-PM Yingluck speak up, for herself and the country, and demonstrate her/Thailand's independence ?

Thaskin hasn't been a millionaire for awhile because he is now a billionaire. So his statement is somewhat true. The best man for the job as his sister and the rest of the government would most likely muck things up. Thaskin the micro-manager of Thailand

more ruler than ambassador.....well they said it before the elections that everything is about Thaksin so no one need to be surprised now.

Just Thailand is lucky that he is such a coward....He could easily come back to Thailand without anyone arresting him. He could even arrest some judges or just shoot them, till all the others bend the laws in his favors

Thaksin's recent interview with Forbes in Dubai:

he said he spoke a few times a week, or more, to Yingluck–often on family affairs but also to advise on official matters.

“Sometimes when there’s a hot issue we talk more. Because I know the people, I know the law, I know international protocols. She is new. She doesn’t need to call me, but when she does, I can give her the answers immediately. Because I am sitting here doing nothing.”

Regarding his behind-the-scenes role in the party and policy, he is not shy: “I am the one who thinks. Like our slogan during the campaign, Thaksin thinks, Pheu Thai acts.”
