Court rejects case against doctor

The Nation

30193446-01_big.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court yesterday dismissed a lawsuit filed by businessman Suthep Laohawattana against his younger brother, former police doctor Suphat, accusing him of perjury and presenting false evidence in a hearing about the custody of their 96-year-old mother Thanim.

Suthep's attorney Songpol Arthornthurasuk said they will appeal.

The court rejected the case citing the lack of proper details about Suphat's behaviour, saying the charges were not legitimate.

Suthep claimed that Suphat, while seeking a court order to become Thanim's custodian, had told the Central Juvenile and Family Court on May 11 that Suthep was mired in debt and had failed in his business and hence wanted to take charge of their mother and her assets.

Med students draw up code of conduct

PUANGCHOMPOO PRASERT

THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- For the first time, deans from 19 medical schools signing in to the Thailand Medical Expo will today recognise a code of conduct for Thai medical students.

Medical Council of Thailand president Dr Amnat Kusalanant said - as chairman of the event - the code of conduct had three main best practices.

First, students should adhere to the benefit of their fellow human beings, be moral and avoid any personal benefits that would ruin their reputations as medical students, their institutions and their medical ethics.

Second, their best practice towards patients - in which they respect patients' rights and dignity and treat them properly as if they were their teachers.

Third, their best practice towards others - that they respect the dignity of their teachers, senior medical students, friends, junior medical students and personnel at every level.

The code of conduct was created by medical students from the 19 institutions as a guide for good practice by medical students. The code would help foster the students to become good doctors, Amnat said.
