Just returned from a thousand km roundtrip from Maha Chana Chai up to Udon / Nong Khai / Chiangkhan / Loei / MCC.

Best stretch of road was from Nong Khai to Chiangkhan, with the Mekong River on your right side the whole way. Nice road, only a few bumpy stretches but nothing to cause concern. Lots of twisties with good grip.

Hoping to do the MHS loop at the end of the year but requires some organising as it's a looooong way from Bangkok.

Unfortunately not. Forgot to pack the camera :(. Also was in a bit of a rush to get to Chiang Khan in time for the river festivities.
