krobert6
My wife has been catching a few fish in the fishfarm draining stream in our garden. What are the general rules for fishing the lakes and rivers ?

Any more specific to Chiang Rai? Can not find anything, but I think if it is a river, you may have to ask the land lord-the same whit lakes-some times it is a small village who have the rights to fish there-and you may have to pay a small amount to them. Think when you find a place-ask the people who live there-they will know.

harrry
http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/546625-fishing-in-chiang-rai/page__hl__+ianforbes%20+fishing#entry5202780 should give you a start. Or you could try searching in the forum searc for "ianforbes fishing" that member is no longer active but he has a lot of information there on fishing. Personally I think sitting under the tree next to the river is fine but it breakes up the concentration having to pull all the fish in.

Will do, I have fished most of my life and do not mind the odd bite Unfortunately up river on the mae kok i have seen several times that they put nets across the entire river to try and catch every fish...obviously too much of this will impact the fish populations pretty dramatically. I have to say that i have seen a lot of people fishing in the mae kok around chiang rai but i have NEVER seen anyone catch a single fish...maybe i just am there at the wrong time. I think you'll have better luck in lakes.

I also see them fishing in Yonok Lake from the bank, they use a crossbow/gun baitcaster - I must spend some time observing their method as I have heaps of fishing gear in OZ I will be sending to my new home (though I might leave the 14' brachcaster ( There are many people fishing in the canals around the fish farms

I set it up at home and said to my better half I will test it by doing a little cast down my driveway. I cast away and the hook and sinker firmly caught on a branch about 3 mtrs up our tree. After a lot of pulling I lost the hook and sinker to the branch. I still walk down our driveway every now and then and look up at the hook and sinker dangling there. I have caught only fish on it since.
