Are 'bpit Fai' & 'dup Fai' The Same?

Featured Replies

Are 'Bpit Fai' & 'Dup Fai' the same, commonly meaning to turn off the lights?

'Fai Dup' means a power cut, right?

For a motor cutting-out in an appliance, should I say 'Kreuang yon bpit' or 'Kreuang yon dup'? Thanks.

"Kreuang yon dup" would mean it suddenly/accidentally turned off. "Dub kruang yon" would mean to deliberatly turn off a motor.

Dub would be used with petrol/diesel motors. For electrical motors/appliances however, "pid" is used.

"Pid fai" would mean to turn off electrical light. "Dub fai" would more mean to turn off live fire such as candle light or any other type of fire.

"Fai dub" means power cut.

You will find many Thai words where if you switch the positions of 2 identical words, the meaning may be quite different.
