November 7, 201213 yr Is anyone out there running ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite with Windows 7 I have just installed it and the machine hangs periodically after 3-4 hours with a black screen. Nothing will bring it back, except a restart via the power button
November 7, 201213 yr I stopped using zonealarm about a couple of years ago when it became crapware. I think Antivirus + Comodo firewall does the job.
November 7, 201213 yr I tried Zonealarm because Checkpoint bought it. But I too found it to cause instability so binned it. I now use AVG and Immunet.
November 7, 201213 yr Author I was running the Extreme version, but then got a good offer on the ISS version......... Wish I had not made the change. These are the instructions I got from the ZA Help Chat Type Msconfig in the run box Tom R.: 3.) Click OK Tom R.: 4.) Once in Msconfig, click the Startup Tab, and remove the checks from everything except zatray.exe. Tom R.: 5.) Click the Service Tab, place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services." Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet Monitor and ZoneAlarm ForceField IswSvc Tom R.: 6.) Click OK Tom R.: 7.) Restart your computer and see if it works. Tom R.: 8.) If it works, go back into Msconfig and place checks back in five or so at a time and restart, so you can narrow down what is causing the conflict. Tedious to say the least. Could take days to eliminate the problem @Manarak Thanks for the suggestion of Comodo Their paid product looks to do all that ZA does, with firewall and antivirus, at a fraction of the price Will check out the trial version
November 8, 201213 yr Author I posted in the ZA forum and was advised to download the latest version. I have been running for over 24 hours now with no hitches. All services and startup programmes enabled. All very strange. Will keep Comodo in mind for next year when the renewal comes round
