Interior Ministry Visit Imminent---Bars are told to close at 1am and operate within the law or face the consequences.

A meeting now from the Town-In-Town Hotel in Central Pattaya, co-chaired by Khun Chawalit, Deputy Chief of Banglamung District and Police Colonel Somnook, the Pattaya Police Chief. A selection of bar operators were called to the meeting to discuss plans to reintroduce the bar operating regulations which have been relaxed over the previous high season months. The Interior Minister is due in Pattaya shortly and local authorities must ensure that the law is adhered to. For now the 1am closing time for bars must be followed and nudity and explicit shows cannot be conducted. It is expected that some bars will disregard these instruction. They were told that if the Interior Ministry catch any bars operating outside the law, the penalties will be severe. The Interior Minister, Air Chief-Marshall Kongdaert is expected to make a detailed inspection of bars and other late night entertainment venues around Pattaya this coming Friday and Saturday. The bar operators were also told to ensure that their operating licenses are correct.

Remember when the Bangkok Metropolitan Police did the same thing with Chuwit's massage parlours?

P.S. Do you think that he's going to 'blitz' them?

Hmmmm that time again - crackdown - lax - crackdown - lax.... funny how things always stay the same?

Let's hope you're right. I thought I'd left all that crap behind me in Bangkok where the closing hours are pretty srticlty enforced these days - unless you happen to be in the RCA area, where anything goes for the rich young Thai kids - for whom the bar closing hours were originally introduced by those crusading power crazy gits from the Interior ministry. :D:o

When will all this sh1it will get to an end? Pattaya is a resort, touriss cime here, people on vacations, do they really have to hear the explanation about Thaksin being crazy? I mean, there are people that can only afford one vacation in one year what did they do wrong???

It`s been going on for a long time now....stick then carrot then stick again....and really at the end of the day I for one cannot see what this method has achieved except provide bad publicity for Pattaya and Thailand in general.

Ironic that Thailand wants to see itself as a beacon of advancement and modernisation, and yet the tourists who provide much needed foreign currency are once again being treated like school children and virtualy being told that it`s bedtime at 1.00a.m.

Lets face it many people these days don`t go out until later in the evening and don`t want to be rushed, but rather take their time over drinking and entertainment and thus enjoy their evening.

So for the life in me I cannot see the reasoning behind extending opening hours during the peak season and reducing them during the quieter season, apart from showing authority, which itself could be directed towards more needy areas such as catching a few of these idiots who seem to be carrying guns at will and shooting who ever takes their fancy.

As I said, it's just those power crazed c...s from the Interior Minstry - getting a kick out of pissing off us farangs. They couldn't give a <deleted> about the tourist industry or what's good for Thailand.

I don't care what time the bars close. But the tourists suffer, they want a 24 hour mad city; just like all those years ago. Crime is on the rise in Pattaya; surely nobody will deny that?

I read on a post that a farang was beaten to death on 2nd Road at 1.00AM last week?

Ideally, central Pattaya would be 24 hour/Mc Donalds and Tops are/were open 24 hours. Is this a sign of the times?

Is it crime? I cannot think why a bar would close if it were busy.

Pattaya is searching, now for a new image. A family image. As the years fly by I notice it is getting more family-friendly.

WOW, Flash news, this is not friendly, this is chaotic and outrageous. While you are at work back home, you really can't afford going to bed later than 11 or 12 o'clock. Now you come on Holiday and you are facing a bartneder that's telling you to go to sleep at 1 am. This is communism. Are they trying to turn Pattaya and Thialand into a global prison?

You can always get a drink or anything else 24/7 in Pattaya. It's always been that way. I'm sure it always will be.

When they start enforcing 1 am hours for the Thai karaoke bars, then we will know they are serious. I don't see that ever happening except the occasional raid for PR purposes on the ones that are late with the "tea money".

As to the official closing hours...... it only affects the high visibility places on Walking St and I'm out of there by midnight anyway.

Well unless they are mute - I'm quite positive if they ask someone will tell them. :o

Yeah, I am sure they could find a lovely thai guiding them into an expensive rathole and let's just not think about what else could happen, should we remember about the farang brit lady that has been recently raped??? Normally I would recommend an authorized service, but I am afraid it would be impossible, I can't see how would the authorities legalize an advice service for where to go after 1AM :o Anyway, everything is possible, we are in Thailand, right?

"It's just that it shouldn't be that way...it's really sad"

I can see your point Alex ...... that a vacation spot should have more of a official nightlife.

The thing is that Pattaya does, it's just unoffical is all. You've been around long enough to realize that nothing is quite as it seems in Thailand. It's actually kind of funny and entertaining when you get used to it.

The bright lights and loud music for the most part ends early (well, it was still pretty loud inside Xzyte at 3 am in November when I was there...) but the party goes on until dawn.

Take care,

WISteve

If the law was followed over a year ago when the enforements were made then we would have been given 2am back already :D Too many greedy owners, too much tea money being dished out, too mush stirring by ****ing newspapers.

2am is fine for me BTW I don't want more.

Officially 3am would be perfect, but guess we will try again next year!! :o

Last call at 2am and clear the bars at 2.30am would be great for the tourist and owners. I usually start early and get back to the hotel around 10-11 anyways. Like mom said " if you aren't in bed by 10 , come on home." Mini bars in the hotel with room service will keep you supplied. If its entertainment get a live one ( whatever your taste) and head out for a joy ride in the hotel. :D More fun in bed than in a bar , agree? :o

Why???????????????? the law says they must close by 12

wrong law Lampy....that one DOES NOT apply to bars..... :o:D

Yes it does...........the Police actually brought our sign to us saying we are not allowed to sell drink outside of 11am-2pm and 5pm-midnight. And it has already been reported on numerous occaisions on this forum that some Hotels in Bangkok are strictly adhereing to the rule. Unfortunately that is the big problem all round. No-body knows what the rule really is. I actually contacted ( well spoke to him when he was in for a meal) the Chief of Surin Police, who informed me that his interpretation of the law, was that no-where was allowed to retail alchohol outside of the laid down hours, be it 7/11, pub or restaurant. The only exception was an establishment with a special permit ie rice porridge licence.

If the bars close at one, just get there that bit earlier, 4 in afternoon would be good, then you'd be well oiled by midnight!

Yeah, let's turn Pattaya into a playground, no bars, no discos, no a g-go's, just girls and pharmacys for the viagra lovers, hotels would also be a good ideea, are you guys in vacation only for sex? Not mentioning the ones are living here, aren't you tired just a little bit of JUST having sex?
