I've recently got my work permit (around 2 months+ ago) and have also recently got my non-b visa around the same time. I came into the country as a visitor as I wasn't able to get the visa done on time from the US. It was converted here (bangkok) from visitor to non-b.

I was recently in Laos (for a day) but after I got back in Thailand, I noticed too late the date wasn't extended to another 90 days (at least in the stamp). My question is, in the passport was that suppose to be changed or is that something one has to assume? My problem was that I had made a poor assumption I didn't have to report because I left the country. Trying to open a business bank account yesterday in paragon, I found out the date was expired.

I am going to chang wattana tomorrow to resolve this issue and I was wondering what I might need. I read in another thread that late 90 days reporting means 2k baht fine. Is there something else I am missing?

On a side note, I also applied for multiple reentry visa but I was only given 90 days instead of a year. I was never very cleared about why this was so other then that it was my first time. Perhaps I am not suppose to miss my first 90 days and only after returning I will be given a full year (from the date of the non-b in my pass).

Very unclear, but this is the situation as it appears to me:

You came in - got a visa exemption.

Got this converted in country into a Non Imm B about 2 months ago.

Got a work permit. At this point, did you extend your stay in the Kingdom for a year?

Left for Laos, came back in and I assume you got a 15 day visa exempt entry.

I think your last paragraph, which you have mentioned as a side note, is the most important part of this. I can't quite figure out what you have got.

Hi Naboo,

When I came back in, the border guy asked me about my non-b visa # in my pass. He was going to give me 15 days but instead used my non-b visa # instead. Otherwise he said I would be in deep trouble.

On your question about extending my stay in the kingdom for a year after I got my work permit. That is a no. I think this is where I made a mistake. There was someone helping me but I think she was a little green on the process. So this might be why it wasn't extended. What kind of problems I might run into tomorrow?

Thanks.

If you departed Thailand without a re-entry permit you should have been stamped in for only 15 days at border (and not allowed to work) and any other actions would have been illegal and is likely to be found on exam (as your stamps from other country will show you outside of Thailand. But as said it is not clear what you had/did or was done from postings. But suspect you are planning to extend for one year now (you do the extension after 60 days on a B visa entry)? Immigration is likely to be very upset if they see what has happened so be prepared to explain everything if asked.

If you are not planning to extend your stay but just to obtain new visa(s) from Consulates (or just leave) I would not make any trip to immigration but just get paperwork together for the new visa and visit a Consulate for issue. Just be sure exit is before your current permitted to stay expires.

Hi Lopburi,

I think I know whats going on.

I came in as a visitor since I wasn't able to do non-b from the US. After I got here, I got my non-b (after quite a bit of work). I got stamped for 90 days after my non-b. I think this is because I didn't have a work permit yet since I needed the non-b first in order to get my work permit. At the same time I got my non-b I also got a multiple reentry permit. This is probably why I got just 90 days on my re-entry because I haven't extended my stay to a year yet (since I didn't have work permit yet).

I got my work permit soon after but I didn't extend my stay to a year. I think this is where I made a mistake.

During these 90 days I went to China and Laos (early last month). The border guard asked me about my non-b and stamp on that date instead of giving be 15 days (since the non-b still had more then 15 days remaining).

Now I'm around 2 weeks over the expired date. From what I read, the latest I can return is a week after the date on my passport. This means I'm actually illegally living in Thailand.

What do you guys advise? If I go and extend my stay to a year now in chang wattana (take my wp and passport), what kind of problems would I run into?

You are on overstay, at 500 baht a day.

Chances are they will fine you and then give you the 1 year extension if you have all the paperwork ready. At worst they will tell you to leave the country, pay the fine and apply for a new non-B visa abroad. I would prepare for this last possibility and hope they will just fine and extend.

I have an officer friend in the military who works nearby (MOD), who said he can go in with me if I want (@ chang wattana). My question is should I bring my friend along? I can deal with the first consequence but the 2nd one is a bit much as I work in bkk and leaving is a bit of a problem. Would this make things go a bit smoother? I also don't want to irritate the immigration and get backfired for bringing a friend along.

Thanks.

You do not have a week after permitted to stay to visit immigration - you are overstay from that date so about 7,000 baht at this point. As said if you qualify they might just fine and allow extension but you could be arrested and deported although more likely be told to immediately leave - you are current working illegally also as you do not have a valid entry.

Two edged sward. Relationships between military and police (immigration are police) are tenuous at the best of times.
