'bpad-Di-But' ... Commonly Heard ... What Does It Mean?

Featured Replies

Bpuddibut or bpaddibut dtaam is spoken on the Thai news channels nightly but I can't find a translation. Please help, with examples. Thanks.

ปฏิบัติ, the more formal word for "to do", with some additional meanings:

ปฏิบัติตาม - to follow

to do, to carry out, to execute, to follow

to do, to carry out, to execute, to follow

Correct. It is more akin to giving out orders or directing an operation eg: as in the army or similar.

'bpaddibut dtaam' refers (loosely) to 'practice Dhamma'...six years of being a monk here (thirty five in Thailand) and whenever asked why I ordained, it's my stock reply, and always gets a smile and a nod of the head...

ps...it's actually pronounced more like 'bpattibaht'...'dtaam' referring to Dhamma...

I always thought that was pronounced 'tham'
