PATTAYA:--A Bizarre road accident occurred on the North Pattaya Road in the early hours of Tuesday which caused 500,000 Baht’s worth of damage to a street pylon and the back-end of an empty coach.

Police were called to the road, in-front of the Peace Resort just after 3am to deal with the accident which involved an empty coach which appeared to have suffered some form of brake failure while it’s driver was purchasing items inside a 24 hour convenience store. Police spoke with the driver, Khun Sompop aged 37 who confirmed that he had parked on the side of the road and applied the brakes as he does every time he parks the coach. He went to the store and whilst inside heard, what he thought was a road crash, and when he went outside to check, the Coach was sitting in the right hand land and had hit a street pylon which fell onto the road.

Police checked the vehicle and the brakes were still applied suggesting some form of failure led to the coach drifting backwards into the pylon. Luckily no other drivers were on the road at the time and the Pachareewa Company, who operate the coach on behalf of the Russian Travel Company Solar Tours, will be expected to pay for the damage caused to the pylon.

Realised he left the brakes off when he heard the bang, ran across the road, reapplied them and called the police... I've seen that more than once...

Those pylons are a death trap ,look how many have been hit already
