Good Mechanic In Chiang Mai? For Turbo Rebuild/replacement

Featured Replies

I don't trust the Toyota garage, well I do trust them, actually, I trust them to overcharge us for everything and anything.

Our Fortuner has a broken Turbo, needs to be rebuilt or replaced, does anyone have recommendations? I'd much rather buy a Turbo from a 3rd party as the Toyota part obviously isn't very good - 6 years from new and 150k km, manufacturer serviced ever 10k, this turbo should not break.

Will post in the motor forum as well but it is kind of a local question as it needs to be in Chiang Mai.

Update: Still looking for a place.

But it seems like it's all my own fault as I never paid any attention to the needs of the turbo... like you're supposed to warm them up and let them cool down, which we never did. It's in the manual! Whoops!

What's the problem? Is it the impeller blades or bearings???

Relatively easy to rebuild.

depending on the damage, it might be repairable.

Alternatively consider one from China - cant be much worse, or one froma wreck

VGT (like on the Fortuner or Hilux 1KD-FTV engine - same turbo) are known in the industry to be less reliable tan the old wastegated models. Same applies to other brands too

Now if you want a high performance model that bolts right on I can help out :-)

Well at least you have the comfort of knowing that all the Thais respect and admire you for choosing a Toyota, even if it doesn't work.
