I have just joined this s I ly with them 3 times a year. I thought I'd get the required 30,000 miles in to start getting benefits.

But it turns out you only get miles if you buy a more expensive ticket. If you get a cheap ticket from an agent you won't get any miles for that trip. You will only get miles if you pay £100 - £200 more for your ticket. Surely this isn't worth it.

Has anybody got any experiences with this frequent flyer program?

I usually fly Elite Class but if my ticket is an R ticket which it usually is no miles will be awarded.

Couple of points, always check with the airline directly often travel agents purchase tickets from consolidators and some of those tickets ex: Europe offer zero point accrual. So many airlines now offer a Best Rate Guarantee and then check the mileage rules.

EVA is joining Star Alliance early next year so hopefully things get better with their programme but the lowest fare non mileage accrual tickets are here to stay, many airlines do this now TG/SQ etc.

Do Thais need a visa for connecting flights? Transit visa?

Thanks

Assuming from your other thread Heathrow/Bangkok is your destination ? EVA is non stop from Bangkok to London so only a visa for a Thai National for UK arrival is applicable.

The quick link for entry visas and transit visa below, it is a universal tool that all airlines not just Star Alliance use for check in procedures- so you can trust it for accurate and up to date information.

Yup its a terrible program. Try Emirates instead.

I have been Evergreen for years and believe they are quite good. I don't buy my own tickets and always have full open tickets so have had no problem accruing miles. Not sure how good Emirates FF is but no matter how good it is, it wouldn't get me to use them as the continuity of service onboard is appalling.

No I meant with Emirates because of the transit stage in Dubai.

London->Dubai->Bangkok and vice versa.

I have flown direct with Eva many times. The startalliance link seems to say no with proof of an outbound flight and under 96 hours in the country. I just want to check as I've now booked the flights.

Thanks
