German arrested in connection with HIV Quicktest website run by Pattaya Company

PATTAYA: -- A 72 year old German was arrested by Region 2 Police on Wednesday accused of operating a website offering HIV Quicktests. The Website indicates it is run by a South Pattaya-based company called HIV Quicktest International from an address on Pattaya Second Road.

Officers from the Child and Women Protection Unit conducted a raid on room number 425 on the 4th floor of the New Day Night Hotel off the South Pattaya Road on Wednesday afternoon and detained it’s occupant Mr. Horst Joseph Melchner, who is named on the website as the account holder where money to purchase the HIV testing kits should be sent to.

Police also found sex enhancement medication including Viagra and Kamagra Jelly along with sex toys and pornographic pictures of what appeared to be foreign women. Mr. Melchner claimed they were intimate pictures of his wife who was based in Germany and were taken 20 years ago.

These test are not Thai FDA approved. What a <SNIP!> joke. I'm sure the police hit him up on a technicality. They only want money. They don't give a $hit about anyone's safety only about getting money. Why in the WORLD would they stop this man from trying to sell products to keep people safe and informed. FDA approval process would require officials touring Germany or USA or wherever those tests were manufactured for an "audit". Need to check whether those facilities match up to Thai standards. Easier if you have a local party as your agent who adds bugger all in terms of actual value to the supply chain.

It is hardly a "technicality" to sell anything considered as under the Thai FDA regulations without their approval to do so, to operate a non registered business to avoid tax, and to do so without a work permit.

Other medication, some available over the counter of Pharmacy’s in Thailand and

- some medications which are not permitted to be sold in Thailand were also found.

Mr. Melchner claims the medication found is for his own personal use.

Despite this claim the investigations into the raid and subsequent seizure of items from his room are ongoing and

thats a shame, these tests are very accurate and easy to do, it would be a big step forward if they were legalized but big money doesnt wont to be undercut, I dont think they are legal in the US either

But actually it's not very different in US !

The fee is much higher in the US - you need to offer a "revolving door" for the FDA approval people, pay lobbyists and own a senator.

Absolutely correct. Operating a website to sell items without FDA approval, drugs that can only be sold by a pharmacist, operating a business from a hotel room means he doesn't have a registered company with a work permit, making money without paying income tax, etc., etc.

FYI, apparently the US FDA recently approved such a test. I don't know if you need a Rx to buy it. It is for "home" use. The cost is about $40.00, or so. I read about it maybe 2 weeks ago. I don't remember about the validity time window.

Give me a break! -Kamagra-, -Zeagra-, Penagra- and other stuff of -Sildenafil- = Viagras "active substance" are produced from big Indian Pharma companies and is sold,

since many years in Thailands Pharmacies under the table and openly on the roads.

Must ask the guys on Sukhumvit in Bangkok who sell that stuff on the pedestrian walkway, if they are, "qualified"

You do know the definition of work in Thailand has nothing do with money or where is comes from...so in fact it could be crime...
