spidermark
Yes this is why you ask for the meter BEFORE you get in the taxi. These guys are motivated as the taxi que is very long so they are motivated..Many Thais will take you for a ride if you let them. tutsiwarrior
recently I got a cab from the taxi rank at the airport on level one...we agreed that it would be a meter job to suk soi 6 with the driver and the girl at the rank but when we got under way the driver said: '450 all in with the tolls included? whaddaya say?' sounded OK and we got to the hotel about 30 mins later... earlier I woulda said 'get fcuked, shit head, whatever the meter sez...' but 450 ain't bad and he got me there quickly...before I knew it I had a drink mixed and porn on the internet in my hotel room... a little of this and a little of that, etc... wellred
I find getting the airport link the best way to get back into the city. If I do want to get a cab though am I best off hanging around where people are being dropped off for departure?
Scully
I have an app on my phone (Thai taxi meter) which tells you how much the fare is or should be. Just put in the distance and the tariff and it calculates the price, its also a free app
LongTimeLurker
Step back and think. White skin baggage tag htw. tanned skin baggage reg pkt. Where's your mark. The baggage tag denotes origin and destination. A 1 hr flight or 12+hr flight. The longer the flight the more vulnerable. The predator seeks the weakest pray And the eagle eyed taxi driver can spot the origin of your flight on a small label as you're approaching his taxi? I've done airport to Asoke - 200 baht fare, 50 baht airport tax, 25 baht toll. (total 275) Soi 6 would be another 20 baht fare, via Asoke, or an extra 45 baht toll and 30 baht fare if they went around to the Suk exit of the toll way. (total 295 or 350) So I'll change my statement to 100 - 175 baht.
tutsiwarrior
as we went over Asoke on the overpass the driver indicated the congestion and then he approached Sukhumvit the way that I know; a slow 200 meters on the off ramp from the freeway before you hit the street itself; no right turn onto soi nana offa suk...he then did a left right after soi nana to double back in the right direction (you can also do this by using the left offa suk before soi nana and then go thru B'grad hospital reception drop off to cross over to head down soi nana...most drivers would go all the way to Asoke on suk and do a U-turn to come back to soi nana adding 20 minutes to the journey and the associated fare...) the driver used all the tricks that I woulda used and he earned his money...30 mins from the airport to hotel check in is not bad for heavy mid town 12pm traffic...100 baht against the meter is chump change... bangkokburning
Taxi meter should read about 55b @ km5. If not, get out. Taxi drivers lurking around lower Sukhumvhit looking to pick up all the stupid sex tourists?? OH say it isn't so!
