NBTC cleared of allegations of shady 3G auction

By English News

BANGKOK, Nov 28 – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) announced today that it found no irregularities in the recent auction of the state’s 3G licences organised by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).

DSI director Tarit Pengdit said a preliminary investigation following complaints against the auction concluded that the NBTC conducted the auction in a fair manner without collusion with the private sector or bid winners.

He said the DSI focused its probe on two major points: 1) Was the auction in accord with procedures imposed by the law? 2) Was there any discrimination against bidders in the auction?

A preliminary investigation found no violation of the law on public auction or collusion as alleged, he said, adding that the NBTC officials in charge of setting conditions for the auction and awarding licences to bid winners had testified before the DSI.

To make it clearer, Mr Tarit said, the DSI has asked the NBTC to give a written clarification while the investigation should be finalised within this week.

The DSI chief said private companies winning the auction will not be summoned for questioning.

Concerning the Finance Ministry’s criticism about the auction, he said the NBTC insisted that the auction was in line with a special law authorised to the independent agency. The Finance Ministry earlier lashed out at the NBTC for failing to follow the state’s regulations on public auction. (MCOT online news)

How much did the government, the NBTC pay the DSI under the table to save their sorry faces?

And by the way, this must be finalization stage number 99999999999999999++++++¥+++++.......... whistling.gifwhistling.gifwhistling.gif

Which will end up into another investigation case that delays it for another 99999999999+++++ years .......

Great news!

Now Thailand can press on with being the hub of E learning just as soon as 3G is up and running...........

I think an announcement is due where they gonna declare that they're the hub of 3G first.

I mean really, who would ever imagined that a government agency would even have any way to benefit or even be interested in benefiting from a tender. Just as well this insideous rumour has been put to rest once and for all, leave the hard working bureaucrats alone, they are not intersted in personal gain, just the advancement of Thailand!

There's still plenty of time for TOT to sue CAT, or CAT to sue NBTC, or vice versa, or someone to try to impeach the government, or the government to impeach someone else.

These legal posturings can be seen as being like putting coffee beans in a jar, When you first put them in, they are not settled, so you have to give them a few shakes for them to settle down.

In Thai politics, where there's a lot of graft on offer, you have to have a few lawsuits and impeachments to settle everyone down and decide what their share is going to be. When the lawsuits stop, you know the horse-trading over bribes and backhanders has come to an end.

Considering the billions to be made from 3G, no surprise it has taken so long already, and no surprise if there are some more twists to come.

If this structure goes through what is CAT actually going to do?

They will just try to find a way to drag the entire FINAL-FINAL-FINAL-AND-once and for all (NOT-REALLY)-FINAL PROCESS out, to make customers wait for another 99999999999999+++++++++++++++.......... years until 99999999999+......,.,,,,,generations of Thais are already in the afterlife....

It would be no surprise if technology completely bypassed 3G by the time Thailand has run out of excuses to use it.

The best technology cannot work without any proper telecom and boradband optic fibre structure, I am expecting a lot of outages and internet disconnections on a regular basis...
