I have a friend staying with me from KL. She is Malay with Malay passport.

We originally planned a 28 day stay and she obtained a tourist visa on arrival. She now wishes to stay longer.

Most red-tape for Malays seems quite easy. They get no problems at immigration. She didn't need to show an onward ticket or money.

Can she just extend at Immigration to have 30, 60 or 90 days more? Will she be asked why? Do I have to vouch for her? Is there a cost?

Thanks in advance

A 30 day visa exempt entry can not be extended but 7 days would be allowed to exit for 1,900 baht. She can exit and return via Malaysia land border for a new 30 day stay (or 15 days at other land borders) or 30 days by air from anywhere or easily obtain a tourist visa from a Thai Consulate outside Thailand.

Thanks but I don't really follow you--I am new at visa extending.

Are you saying that the only thing she can do in Bangkok is pay 1900 for 7 days over the 30 days Tourist?

She has a ticket to KL with AAsia 2 days before her Tourist V expires (at 28 days). Is it easier for her to fly into KL and then just fly back in 2 days? If so, should she aim to get a 3 month visa in the Thai Embassy in KL first? Or does she need to show work or other reason?

If that is a bit red-taped, should she just fly in to Don Muang again after 2-3 days and get another Tourist Visa 30 days? Is there any limit on continual Tourist Visas?

Thz again.

30 day entry is not a visa - it is visa exempt entry - so it can not be extended as a tourist visa can. So if she plans a longer stay yes return to KL to obtain a tourist visa would likely be a good option. Normally this is routine if passport is not full of such visas so should not be a problem obtaining. That would allow up to 90 days with extension.

Thanks Lopburi

I will tell her to get the flight as planned and then go to the Embassy in KL.

If we plan to do this as 30 day exempts (as you explain), can she just fly back in and do the 30 day thing again, 5 days later (ie. no tourist visa, no 90 days). Can she do that any number of times?

several options:

Fly to KL, fly direct back (Thailand don't need a 2 day waiting period. That was Malaysia, asking travelers to do so, i think!whistling.gif )

No limits of entries for this way into Thailand, at time. She even can use the Malay-Thai land border, to get 30 days, every time. (can be cheaper, with train from Bangkok. If money is a issue)

Or get a tourist visa, maybe double entry. Every Tourist visa entry is good for 60 days plus a extension for another 30.

And b/c she's Malay, I don't think, that she needs a 'leaving Thailand Air-ticket' to present at the Embassy.

Money is not an issue

If she gets a Tourist Visa in her home town KL is this 60 days plus extend here 30 more days for 1900baht?

Is the standard price for a tourist visa of 60 days in the Thai embassy of KL around 1900b (190 ringit)?

Extension (the 30 days, later) is 1900 baht

The Visa itself should be around 110 ringit

Double entry is 220, I think

Malaysians are exempted from any visa application fees for Thai Visa.

Single Entry Tourist Visa only

As said the visa is free so makes sense to stay a day to obtain it - only the extension, if wanted, will cost the normal 1,900 baht.

So my friend should go home to KL and get a single entry tourist visa at the Thai Embassy. Which will be free. And lasts 60 days?

The other option, if we plan on doing regular flights, is just to get a 30-day stamp at the airport on arrival here, and as a Malay there are no limits on doing this 20 times.

This time, my friend was not asked to give a host address, further ticket or proof of money. It must be good to be Malay.
