Where To Go To Clean Auto Air Conditioner?

Featured Replies

I usually go to Amnuay and am always satisfied as they do a good job. But they charge about 2,200 Baht to clean the A/C and top up the gas. I've had numerous unexpected large expenses in the last few weeks with a number of medical emergencies in the family, house repairs and so forth. I'm really looking to save some money this time. I called my two regular mechanics who are always very reasonable but got quotes of 1,600 and 1,700 Baht to clean the A/C. I told them both I don't need gas (just checked the Freon using a friend's meter and it is full). But they would not budge on price. It's not a double-pricing thing as I asked a Thai friend and she said she recently paid in the 1600 THB range. I also had the g/f call a couple of places and she was also quoted 1,600-1,800 Baht. It's not exactly rocket science as I have watched them a few times over the years at Amnuay. They remove the A/C, put it in a big concrete tub with detergent and water and a guy or two brush the thing clean and then give it a good rinse and re-install it. Takes about 90 minutes. I don't really understand the pricing.

Anyone have a suggestion of where to go? Thanks.

Depending on whether you wish to clean the evaporator or condensor, frankly, ~1600bt is cheap!

On a late-model car, neither should require annual cleaning ... a rip-off practice I've only seen offered in recent years. My last Nissan sports car in Australia was over 20 years old and the a/c worked perfectly without ever having had anymore than a refrigerant re-charge.

:)
