Lite Beer
Cops dealt drugs from police pick-up: Chalerm Supachai Petchthewee The Nation BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung and National Police chief General Adul Saengsingkaew held a press conference on Saturday to announce the arrest of police officers in Nan province accused of dealing methamphetamine after being caught with 1 million yaba tablets in a police pick-up truck. "It's a source of pain and shame for all police officers that some police sell drugs themselves. They even used a vehicle with a police shield logo to sell the drugs," Chalerm said. "But I'm glad that they have been arrested." The gang was involved in transporting the drug from the northern province for sale in Bangkok, a drug-suppression police officer said at the press conference. The officers accused of involvement in the drug-dealing gang include Pol Lt-Colonel Thammanoon Nakbua, superintendent of Uan police station, and Pol Sub-Lieutenant Jittipong Sochai, who is a crime-suppression officer. -- The Nation 2012-12-

Popular Post Ricardo
When will the photos appear on the internet, of the alleged malefactors having their fingerprints taken, and DPM-Chalerm standing there pointing his finger at them, in response to their showing that he's failed to eliminate drugs after all ? Quick, change the subject !

arthurboy
"It's a source of pain and shame for all police officers that some police sell drugs themselves.'' Empty rhetoric. And while we're on the subject, I thought you were supposed be in the south, Mr. Chalerm, but I guess the phot op. was just too much to pass up. No hesitation there I guess. And on another note. I wonder how many cops deal drugs in Thailand?
chainarong
If the Thai police force had a crime and corruption section, they would be the biggest gov dept in thailand, however question is, who would keep an eye on them.
Popular Post AleG
I thought Chalerm wanted them all executed within 15 days. Does that not apply to coppers? Why not? summary execution of a police officer is nothing new for the Chalerm family.

Like the movie "Casino" where the players are watching the cards, the dealers are watching the players, the pit bosses are watching the dealers, the floor managers are watching the pit bosses, the casino manager is watching the floor managers, and the eye in the sky is watching everyone.
bendejo
Chalerm denouncing the police? Is this then end of a beautiful friendship? His phone probably rang a minute after he said it, someone calling from overseas telling him to backtrack and apologize. "Now put my sister on..."
Kilgore Trout
I thought Chalerm wanted them all executed within 15 days. Does that not apply to coppers? Don't be naive, of course it does not. Remember, there is nothing under the sun the thai police cannot do
Popular Post EyesWideOpen
Haha I saw this story on Thai news yesterday, and at the same time they ran the story about the police robbing the Laos nationals. The Thai police are nothing more than mafia masquerading as police with a concession granted by the government. The level of hatred towards the Thai police by Thai people is astonishing, a result of a lifetime of the police stealing money from them. But I have to say, the video of Charlerm thundering away in dismay at the concept of police dealing drugs adds a nice farcical touch. Made all the more funny by that fact that any illegal dealings performed by the police create money, which of course is properly funneled up the chain of command. I will say again. To eliminate crime in Thailand, fire all the police and start fresh...
Thait Spot
The whole Thai police force needs to be dismantled and put back together as a crime-busting, non-criminal, nonpartisan operation that does its job independently. That should include banning police, retired or otherwise, from holding any political post.

antpet
Don't look for fix it solutions as it never was working! The police [ I refuse to capitalise this scum ] are a mafia institution. They are not the enforcers of the law. They are the abusers of the law. They are a criminal entity and act accordingly. Chalerm benefitted from this for years and now is embarrassed by the lofty and undeserved position he occupies. the bellowing rhetoric is for public consumption and will be little compared with the behind doors demands to put someone in charge of the drug dealing who can guarantee its low profile existence. There are billions being made from the drug trade with Burma and it is not going to cease as long as Thais have pockets too deep to fill. We should run a 'where are they now' as regards the Chalerm scum sons. I expect they are snouts in the trough of dad's wake turning ll those contacts into hard cash. This is actually a 'non' story as Chalerm told us long ago 'there are no drugs' in Thailand. My wife picks herbs and makes a paste when I have a headache. We can't even buy aspirin anymore!

KarstenBoAndersen
The police cars are not used for police work anyway ! I will say that more then 50% of the time are they used for private use, family trips, moving, shopping etc. Could be funny to have a homepage where all could send in photos of Thaipolice and police cars doing something they shouldn´t !
samjaidee
1 million pills that would have taken a fair bit of time to count ! There's a new invention on the market now called scales. You use them for weighing. First you weigh the total quantity of pills. Then you weigh one individual pill. Then comes the tough part. You divide the larger weight by the smaller weight. The answer is... wait for it... the total number of pills. No, it's not magic; it's called mathematics. I know this because I've just been teaching my Grade 4 class about it. If you're interested, I do private tutoring for US$30 an hour.
