Animal Rights Protesters outside German Dog Killer’s home

A month ago, reports emerged of a German Man, Alfred Gatt, who, as an expat resident in the area, was consistently frustrated at repeated attacks by a golden retriever dog that roamed the neighbourhood while its owners were away. Mr. Gatt, himself a dog owner, stabbed the dog to death in what, at the time, was described by the local media as a “frenzy”. Police were involved, it was thought that an agreement had been mediated between the dead dog owners and the “knifeman” resulting in the matter had been put to rest. ( More photographs below)

Now, far from being put to rest, a month later the story is once again hitting national news headlines, as Animal rights campaigners, this weekend, met outside his home to protest, amid claims that the German citizen is suing the dead dog owner.. for 300,000.00 Baht, after he himself was fined a mere 1000 for the attack. The protesters, carrying banners condemning the man and telling him to leave the country were polite and wll behaved, but the anger was obvious.

IF a dog bit me it would get the same treatment ,dogs here are a menace ,you cant walk out at night where we live as they are liable to bite you ,pity the local councill dont round them up and put them to sleep .as for the protestors ,get back to hugging trees.

There are definitely 2 faces to Thailand regarding dogs.

Yet to have stabbed this dog this many times does seem OTT and it is obviously not only the attack on the dog but the amount of compensation the German is apparently asking for that is fuelling the protests. Maybe he should re-think his request for compensation.

IMHO, beating the dog with a stick should have been enough to let that dog know it is messing with the wrong person, but I do not really want to re-hash over old comments.

I think these protesters should look at the bigger picture in their own towns before considering protesting outside the German embassy regarding animal cruelty.

Facebook Animal Rights Activists Protest at German’s House in Sattahip

SATTAHIP:--A group of around 50 Facebook followers of a page which claims to promote Animal Rights in Thailand converged on the house of a German resident in a quiet Sattahip Village on Saturday, following an incident which occurred on 12th November where he was accused of fatally stabbing a neighbors Golden Labrador which was reportedly attacking the German and his Rottweiler as the pair went for their daily walk. Mr. Gatt was fined 1,000 Baht for the attack which was the maximum fine permitted under Thai Law according to Police.

In a twist to the story it is now reported that Mr. Alfred Gatt aged 65 is pursuing legal action against the owner of the Labrador, Chief Petty Officer First Class Gampon aged 43 and is requesting compensation of 300,000 Baht for injuries Mr. Gatt claims he sustained following multiple attacks by the Labrador.

Followers of a Facebook page called “A Call for Animal Rights Thailand” which currently has nearly 26,000 followers were told to gather in front of Mr. Gatt’s house on Saturday. The small group were clearly angry but remained non-violent. Police Officers present appeared to side with the protesters and even posed for pictures with the protest group.

A small delegation of protesters were invited into Mr. Gatt’s house to discuss the incident but they reportedly refused to go. Instead a Thai who speaks fluent German used foul language to entice Mr. Gatt to confront the group in front of the many cameras which were documenting the protest. Despite the placards which demanded Mr. Gatt leave Thailand, he did appear for less than a minute in an attempt to defend himself but he was met by angry protesters and was forced back into the house. His wife, Khun Vilawan aged 42 did her best to defend her Husband by showing them pictures of injuries Mr. Gatt sustained during the many attacks.

I'm afraid this protest group is "barking" up the wrong tree. If the dog attacked him he had every right to defend himself. These people are the ones that need to go home.
