I'm one of these unfortunates ....

Although many of the former HSBC staff have moved to the BoA branch on Wittayu ... and this is very positive in my opinion ... I'm still disappointed in the service.

I just had embarrassing problem when my HSBC credit card was rejected by Bumrungradt.

Any comments from fellow HSBC refugees?

My wife just got her replacement card from Krungsri Bank.. If I am not mistaken HSBC had sent out letters informing their customers about their CC being canceled..

Hmm, speaking of HSBC, a New York Times editorial argues:

It is a dark day for the rule of law. Federal and state authorities have chosen not to indict HSBC, the London-based bank, on charges of vast and prolonged money laundering, for fear that criminal prosecution would topple the bank and, in the process, endanger the financial system. They also have not charged any top HSBC banker in the case, though it boggles the mind that a bank could launder money as HSBC did without anyone in a position of authority making culpable decisions.

Clearly, the government has bought into the notion that too big to fail is too big to jail. When prosecutors choose not to prosecute to the full extent of the law in a case as egregious as this, the law itself is diminished. The deterrence that comes from the threat of criminal prosecution is weakened, if not lost.

So far I have found the service to be very good. Perhaps I am fortunate that my HSBC relationship manager moved to Krungsri and continues to look after my accounts. I recently acquired an ATM card on a new account which allows me to withdraw funds from any bank's ATM at any location within Thailand without charge except for an annual account fee of Baht 200. You can also feed it from an account earning 2.8% which allows two withdrawals or transfers per month without affecting the interest rate.

I was transferred to exclusive banking and been extremely disappointed so have closed the account and moved to Standard Chartered and also UOB both which seem more customer friendly in their exclusive banking sections.. BAY is a Thai Bank and doesn't seem to really understand what an expat requires and yet expects me to maintain a balance of 5 million baht and gives me nothing extra in service other than some irritating problems. I understand though from HSBC that they know they have problems and are trying to address the issues..

If you are seeking respectable Premier Banking Services in the Kingdom, I have found that Standard Chartered and ICBC are the two best institutions now that HSBC has fled the scene.

Agree 100%.

All they want to do is try and sell my wife and I useless investment/insurance policies.

Best avoided.

For equivalence to HSBC account I would think Standard Chartered the best bet.

I beleve that HSBC notice says that they are transferring mgmt of the card to Krungsri. Although the new replacement Krungsri cards are being sent out now (supposedly in November) I haven't received mine yet. They say "it's in the mail". The HSBC card itself is supposedly usable until next May (managed by Krungsri since last month).

I am curious what Standard Chartered or ICBC gives you that you don't get from a Thai bank such as BBL.

I use HSBC premier in Jersey for my offshore money, and tried HSBC in Thailand for a while, but I found their services very limited compared to a major Thai bank. In particular, I found HSBC limited in terms of its Internet banking transfer and direct debit capabilities.

However, BBL is ludicrously bureaucratic and their interest rates are pathetic. (I get around this by using a money market fund linked to my BBL account to hold the bulk of my cash.)

BBL do have a priority banking service (Bualuang Exclusive) that they give you if you keep 3m with them, but I don't find it particularly useful.

Another plus of BBL is that they seem pretty competent at handling international transfers.

One point is that HSBC customers wanted to be with HSBC either because they were prior HSBC customers elsewhere and/or they wanted to have an account with an international bank not based in Thailand. You can argue the comparative benefits compared with a Thai bank, but if the criteria established with HSBC is to continue then an account with StanChart fits the bill as would no doubt Citibank.

My HSBC card stopped working a while back and I've heard nothing from them.

If you want to use it .... complain. They need to know how badly their transition plan for their old customers is working.
