Hi All.

going thru a final checklist of papers we have for my wifes family visit visa app appointment for tommorow ..(friday)

she has been reading up herself on google also lol..

she has just said we need to get the thai marriage certificate and thai change of surname paper translated into english ..

is this correct as we will need to go earlier and use a local translating office if so .

i'd thought that with her thai id card with my surname on and the marriage papers in thai there was no need...

anything else need to be in english if this is right ? in case i've overlooked other things

assume theres lots of fast translation offices near the VFS ?

There has always been a requirement to get documents translated but I understand that ECO's had a certain amount of discretion in the circumstances you describe, they do have Thais on their team.

This discretion was removed in a recent Immigration Act, you might want to have a look at the response they gave to Visa Plus when he asked the UKBA a similar question http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/585712-need-to-translate-document-for-uk-visa-the-definitive-answer/page__hl__translation

I don't know if they enforce this, but I would probably err on the side of caution in similar circumstances, maybe others may be able to give their recent experience.

There always used to be a number of translators in the area and I assume that's still the case, they will probably have a template, obviously beware of the dodgy agent next to the new VFS office.

If in doubt get it translated! Once over here in the UK translation facilities come with a very big -price tag. Get it all translated (whether required or not) and keep copies safe. We have just had to get a translation done of our daughters birth certificate (for naturalisation).

Oddly we have not needed it before now at any stage, including Child Benefit applications!
