Bangkok To Khao Lak By Car

Featured Replies

I will be traveling to Khao Lak by car I wanted to take my time and do the trip in 2 days can anyone recommend a hotel that I could stay in along the way. Also is there any special places or things of interest that people could recommend that I may wish to stop and see? I will be traveling with a Thai but I am not sure they know all that much about this part of Thailand. Many thanks for your replies.

Prachuap Khiri Khan, an hour south of Hua Hin, is a lovely traditional Thai town and a great place to stay and enjoy. However, it may mot be further enough towards Khao Lak as you might like at it's about 3 3/4 hours from Bangkok and will leave you still with about 6 hours to Khao Lak. Go further south to Chumpon and its about 4 hours to Khao Lak and 5 3/4 hours from Bangkok. Plenty of places in both areas and in between that you can just turn up and book decent but inexpensive accommodation.

from Bangkok heading south i always drive to Chumpon and than down across to Ranong and stay at the hotel on the main road. Plenty of places to eat with in walking disance. They have a great natural hot water spa ( they have seperate ladies and men spas) and although the hotel is showing its age its a great deal for less than 900 baht Jansom Hot spa Health resort

Its about 8 hour drive

than to Khao lak its another 1-2 only

Better is the Spar Hotel Tinidee, phone them book a room without breakfast in the Annex [ in car park is newly renovated but has the old furniture from the main Hotel] price 590 baht per room... 2 mins walk down, is road with 7/11 and some street sellers, 5 mins walk up your in the Town of Ranong..... http://www.tinideehotels.com/ranong/index.htm

Ranong is a good suggestion as is the Tinidee Hotel (great hot spring spa)but it's 210km from Khao Lak and takes a good 3 hours unless you are in one of the mad visa run mini-buses ;-).

Moderator, I only answered one post, and got a message regarding "blocks of test" I'm wondering if I am wasting my time applying to posts here on TV.

Chumphon: 430 km or half-a-way: my best choice is Nanaburi Hotel. Tel.: 077 503 888. GPS coordinates are: N = 10gr. 29' 55.09" - E = 99gr. 10' 47.29". I bet you can't find a better place and quality for this price. Room rates are between 900 and 1,000 THB/night, breakfast included. I usually take my dinner in the restaurant (coffee-shop) in front of the railroad station with coordinates N = 10gr. 30' 09.41" - E = 99gr. 10' 34.19". They have excellent seafood.
