Hi, I'm in my early 50s and married to a Thai lady. I want to retire here, is there a designated route for doing this? What are the pitfalls? Is there a step by step guide anywhere for this ? Any help appreciated. :o

Well, the route usually starts at the airport ...

Seriously though, as far as I know there is no technical manual for this (at least one with a step by step list that would apply to everyone), just lots of different resources. There are so many personal variables, including what country you are coming from. This website is a great resource of course, and there are scores of books about the general topic of retiring overseas available.

I would advise you to ask more specific concerns to your situation, and you sure to get lots of opinions here.

It sounds as if you already have some doubts in your mind. :o

What type of pitfalls are you currently perceiving/anticipating?

Is it you or your wife who wants to retire in LOS?

When you say “here”, do you mean to say that you are in Thailand at the moment? If yes, with what type of visa did you enter and what is the “admitted until...” date stamped in your passport?

If you are already in Thailand and did not get your non-immigrant visa before you enter into thailand, you may have to exit Thailand to get your non-immigrant visa and then re-enter into Thailand again

If ... you may have to ..
...and if not, and what other possibilities than “you may have to”, under what conditions?

Let the original poster be more specific, rather than have you give him an answer that may or may not apply to his situation, as yet unknown to us. Alternatively, give him an answer to all possible variables, which I would, however, not recommend as your post would get very long indeed.

Hi Graham r

As you are married to Thai lady I am surprised your question is not more specific, they normally have pretty strong views :o mainly family orientated on where to live, what to do etc.

Hmmm. Just seen your posting re UK benefits in health forum. Now I understand why your request is so vague.

I have always been brought up to realise the only way one can get what one wants with no strings attached is to work and pay for it oneself. I continue to work and pay tax in the UK to enable me to live my dreams.

Every day I come into contact with many disabled people who are busy earning a living and presumably contributing towards your lifestyle which they may never achieve for themselves.

As for disabilities real or imagined the eastern philosophy of Khama has a lot going for it.

As TBWG pointed out above, the OP has also been posting in the Health Forum.

It transpires that friend 'graham r' has nothing better to do than waste our time by playing the troll.

Here is his post admitting same:

Apologies to all, I thought after my initial posting that it was an obvious scam, if suneeoki and guest house care to post their drinking haunts, I'll be glad to look them up whenever I'm in their area ( I'm actually retired here and travel around quite a lot despite my " condition" ) and stand them a round or two. After consideration, I won't be doing this again, some of the replies were extremely aggressive, again apologies to all, and don't take life too seriously, this is the LOS !!

What a bullsh..t artist, ( and a real troll). I know we all have a go at each other sometimes, and there'sa lot of smutty and racists opinions aired ( me included), but I do feel the forum has a certain integrity amongst it's members. This guy is something else again - should he be banned???

I've just read all his posts - he stated he retired here ages ago - what's his game? Sorry it just upsets me that someone can't even be honest in a forum like this and tries to abuse everyone's goodwill!! :o:D

Seems to me he succeeded!

Ban him

then stake him out in the hot sun somewhere the ants can chew on him a while.
