Hi,

A friend may be pregnant.

She has no insurance.

What is the total cost before baby delivery? I have no idea.

Can she go to Bandon Hospital for this?

Thanks

My girlfriend had her baby in a government hospital, the shared room cost was about 300 per day and a private room with tv and aircon was 1000 per day. The total bill for me came to 22000 baht for a c section inc 5 days in a private room(had a tough time with the pregnancy). I guess every hospital is different though. Private hospitals can be upwards of 50000 baht.

The costs were incurred this year so it's up to date.

Bandon Hospital should be the last hospital anyone goes too... don't think I heard a good report about it yet...

Big C should be able to jump here and give some advise, as long as you can understand what he writes!!! whistling.gif

Busy Bee, says Nathon Gov hospital, I agree as a general hospital, It's not a bad hospital ... so something to consider, most locals would use that,.... I am sure well experienced there !!!

Private rooms are huge, with TV and fridge and spare sofa for a visitor to sleep or nap.

Just to advise - you cannot always get a private room. You may have to 'book' in advance. When busy - they have a waiting list.

(Definitley stay away from Bandon - or aBandon the Bad-one)

Most hospitals do a whole pregnancy deal including a range of examinations, tests and the actual delivery. Mid-range private hospital maybe around 90,000. Govt hospital way cheaper. Just do the delivery way cheaper still.

Is she Thai or Falang?

My wife's OB/GYN has a clinic just outside the gates to Nathon Hospital, recommended.

Around 800 baht / visit during pregnancy.

5000 baht in bonus to her so she would do the C-section herself.

3 nights at private room in Nathon 3.900 baht.

Because my wife is Thai and has a house book on Samui the rest was free.

Hi all, thanks for your answer.

The wife is farang.

So if I understand well

- she can go to public hospital where it should be quite cheap (22000 on 5 days basis)

- she can go to private where it should be 50-90 000 depending fo the pre examination, packages, or not...

Thanks...!

Be aware that the staff at the public hospital is not fluent in English, only the doctor.

I have to disagree with that statement, I would say most (perhaps not all) .... of the nurses are quite good with their English, I've never had a problem communicating with them. (even when in there for a week stay a couple of years ago) ... Perhaps not 100% fluent but not bad... (Nathon Hospital)

Take your wife to look round all of them. Its really got to be where she feels comfortable. There probably aren't many 'falang' expectant mothers to be that would choose nathon over the private hospitals if finances had nothing to do with it.

For what it is worth - no matter how much the delivery costs - the real cost of a pregnancy is much higher - for the next 16 - 18 years.

Are you reading this mr leckyman, no more pub every night for you soon, have a nice christmas everyone

If there are complications during birth they take you to Nathon anyway.

Nathon Hospital delivers many babies everyday and have the experience .
