Our last child has been born in America and the missus is traveling with her to Thailand soon. We already have her US passport, but wanted to get her Thai passport in Bangkok, rather than USA to save time.

Is this an ornerous issue or are they good about this?

thanks

Normally you'd get it at a Thai Embassy/Consulate in the country the child is born in.

Contact an embassy/consulate and ask about it.

They'll make you a Thai birth certificate for the child. You'll use that to get the passport.

Fairly routine procedure for them.

I don't recall how long before we got the passport, but the birth certificate and PP application just took a few minutes. The e/c will be able to give you up to date info.

It will be more onerous to do it in Thailand given your child was born in the US. Embassy is probably first port of call and the can direct you to the nearest consulate to process the passport, but you'll certainly need a Thai birth certificate issued by the Thai embassy in D.C first.

As said get in US as that report of birth is a requirement and to obtain in Thailand would require that and registration in a blue book here and then an exit/return on passport to legalize entry as Thai (if stay is long term). It sounds like a short trip so if not enough time I would just wait until return to US to obtain first passport. But get the birth registered at Embassy as soon as you can.

The embassy in DC or any of the consulates in NY, Chicago or LA can do the birth certificate and passport application. The honorary consulates cannot do this.
