Thai-Cambodian Single Visa To Commence Thursday

Recommended Posts

I didn't mention the exit fee because it wasn't relevant to the point of my initial post - the fact that I was the first tourist to do a visa run with the new rules and to post about it simply so others in a similar situation don't need to worry.

Seen as how others have commented on the exit fees - these are strictly unofficial, not everyone gets asked but they DO exist on a country wide scale - do a search on this forum. Countless others have experienced these at other places. The border with the casino has some very nasty comments on this forum however many people only get charged the extra 100b because 'they didn't stay the night'. Paying this or not paying it has nothing to do with being a push over. Often the situation is very intimidating.

People have commented saying that to deal with it being asked for the extra money you simply reach over and grab your passport from them and then when other officials come over to the scene you stand your ground for a few hours until they magically give in and stamp you in and out the country whilst no longer demanding the extra charges. What the actual fuc_k? Who would reach over and do that? Where they are armed and wouldn't hesitate to put one in you if they felt threatened by some tourist. Braving that part, who then has a few hours to kill trying to argue with several armed officials in a country where this kind of corruption is widely accepted? Chances of success seem low to me.

I would like to add to what nidieunimaitre mentioned about not being a push over.

At the moment they ask for the 300b 'extra' you must realise that:

  • You are in no mans land (stamped out of Thailand and can't go back until you have visited another country)
  • Have already paid for your Cambodian visa but not yet been STAMPED IN at immigration therefore still standing in between the two countries
  • You are the only foreigner surrounded by a dozen uniformed armed officials
  • Have limited options. Argue for several hours as others have suggested or just pay the 'extra'

I am currently on a double entry tourist visa (only my 2nd since coming to Thailand) and will be doing the Cambodian border run in February. I was worried about how these new regulations will effect my plans but it seems as though it should go as normal.

My question is: What will happen when I need to apply for a new tourist visa? Can I still get the 60 day double entry visa or will I have to get the new thai/cambodian visa, and if so how will it work?

This 60 day double entry visa is news to me. I have only been able to get a 60 day single entry visa as of late. I will try to find out more about this. As for the posters that have had problems at bordering crossings with paying extra, waiting hours or being intimated I don't understand. I have never had these problems in my years of crossing. And I am all ways crossing with my motorcycle. Maybe I have just been lucky. Hope my luck continues. I hope this new double visa works out as if it does then there could be a multiple visa for several SEA countries.

There is no difference. You can still get the double entry tourist visa in Laos. In Cambodia you will only get a single entry, they stoped issueing double entries there a long time ago.

You should be able to get another Double Entry in Vientiane or Savannakhet.

FYI,only fewThai Embassy/Consulates here in the Region are issueing these Double Entries.

So far , no one knows for sure on how to apply for that new Visa but as far as I can figure out it will not benefit people on Visa Runs.
