Morlam - Recommendations Please

Hello!

I love Morlam - the "country" music from Issan (and Laos). I would like to get some CDs and need some suggestions. The sort of thing I am looking for would be "Best of" or "So and So's greatest hits".

One singer's Morlam I definitely do like is Jintara Poonlarb, in particular her song "Wung Ta Krai". There are other great male singers, too, but I am not familiaiar with their names.

Please give me some suggestions about which CDs to get. If you can put the name in English and Thai, that might be very helpful.

Thank you!

and dang kitikorn (havent heard much i nthe past few years, had a few scandals in his life)

but that is not morlum but luk thung:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qlhaeDvnCU an older duet...

just type in luuk thung thai in utube...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYWXlhYIgiE

just type in the words: kit tung, kit hawt, pu so jai dam.... lots of music will show up....

one video will lead to an other unti they all sort of run together... the older stuff is much better as far as i can tell... and in many of the songs the words are a little better then the newer pop luukthung issaan... i notice that my husband sticks with the older stuff also, claiming the newer stuff in 'not real', but it could be he is showing his age already... (still living in carabou world also like dead heads or sinatra fans)

add 'toraman' and 'kee mao' and you'll get them all.

Oh so true.

Theres one I hear on the tv, bai taam por ter see, go and ask her father.

Brilliant observations, rips into and takes the piss about Louis Wittong handbags, Dior rings, eating Korean food and going on an airplane, and coming back and acting the big shot in the village.

Cant remember the girl singers name.

Not sure if it's really considered Morlam but Chee Hoy always makes me smile smile.png

Have always loved that song, also love the double entendre of the word hoy. w00t.gif It make me smile too.

Ka mod. Hes really popular and good cd. Just ask for it in a music shop

Turn him up,

That is sort of stretching the term morlam a bit. I reckon if there is no khaen, or at least a keyboard player trying to make up for the lack of a khaen player, playing then it is not morlam.
